Rahul Gandhi's remarks harm Congress, party sinking: Kiren Rijiju

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju Thursday said Rahul Gandhi's remarks have caused harm to the Congress whose leaders were worried that the party's fortunes were sinking. Rijiju's remarks came after a Gujarat court convicted Gandhi for his 'Modi surname' comments and handed out a two-year jail term to the Lok Sabha member from Wayanad. The court granted Gandhi bail and suspended the sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal in a higher court. "Whatever Rahul Gandhi says causes harm. It causes harm not only to the party but also to others. It is not good for the nation," Rijiju told reporters when asked to comment on the Congress leader's conviction. The senior BJP leader said some Congress MPs had told him that Gandhi's style of functioning was affecting the main opposition party. "Some Congress leaders have told me that Rahul Gandhi's style of functioning has messed up things. It is causing harm to their party. Their party is sinking," Rijiju said.

Parl logjam can end with Rahul's unambiguous apology for his remarks: Puri

An unambiguous apology from Rahul Gandhi can end the logjam in Parliament, Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday as he slammed the Congress leader for his recent remarks in the United Kingdom. Addressing a press conference, the BJP leader categorically rejected Gandhi's claims on the prevailing situation in India and urged him to clarify if he was "playing to an agenda. During his interactions in the United Kingdom recently, Gandhi alleged that the structures of Indian democracy are under attack and there is a "full-scale assault" on the country's institutions. His remarks triggered a massive political row, with the BJP accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and seeking foreign interventions and the Congress hitting back, citing instances of Prime Minister Modi raising internal politics abroad. If any individual goes outside the country, he has the freedom to speak. But along with that freedom of speech comes the need to have a sense of responsibility, Puri ...
