A total of 544 candidates, including Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Dr CP Joshi and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, on Saturday filed nomination papers for the Assembly elections. According to the election commission, on Saturday, the fifth day of filing nomination papers for the Assembly elections, 544 candidates filed nomination papers for 191 constituencies. So far, 1079 candidates have filed 1462 nomination forms in the state. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said that nomination papers would not be filed on Sunday, thus Monday will be the last day for filing nominations. Raje filed nomination from Jhalrapatan seat. A Delhi court will hear arguments on Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat's defamation complaint against Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on November 20. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal on Friday adjourned the matter after the court was informed that the complainant's counsel, senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, was not available to make the submissions. The Enforcement Directorate on Friday conducted fresh searches in poll-bound Rajasthan, including at the premises of a senior IAS officer, as part of its money laundering investigation into the alleged Jal Jivan Mission scam, official sources said. A total of 25 premises in the state capital Jaipur, and Dausa, including that of ACS in the PHE department, Subodh Agarwal, are being covered, they said. Some other linked persons are also being covered under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said. The central agency had carried out similar raids in this case in September. The state will vote for its 200-member assembly on November 25.

The federal agency had issued summons to Vaibhav Gehlot to appear before the investigating officer of the case, at its headquarters on A P J Abdul Kalam road, under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday claimed that central agencies will carry out raids in election-bound Madhya Pradesh similar to the ones they recently conducted in Rajasthan, who also goes to polls next month. Earlier this week, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the premises of Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra and the party candidate from Mahua assembly seat as part of a money laundering probe into an alleged exam paper leak case in the state. The Rajasthan Police has seized Rs 200-crore worth election "freebies" including cash, liquor, narcotics and jewellery since the Model Code of Conduct came into force in the state on October 9, a top official said on Saturday. Leading a team of 12 officers, Inspector General of Police Vikas Kumar has created a 'STORM CLUB' to keep a strict vigil across the state to ensure voters are not illegally influenced by the candidates during the campaign for November 25 polls. "So far, we have made recoveries to the tune of Rs 214 crore which includes cash amounting to Rs 25 crore, liquor worth Rs 20 crore and jewellery and gold worth Rs 20 crore," Kumar, a 2004-batch IPS officer, said here. Besides this, he said, drugs worth Rs 60 crore, petrol, diesel and illegally stored fertilizer, meant to influence voters, were also seized in various districts.
