Jio rolls out 5G service in 26 Ghz band, claims top speed of 2 gbps

Reliance Jio Infocomm on Monday said it has rolled out 5G services in 26 gigahertz millimetres across India and has claimed a record top speed of up to 2 gigabits per second. The millimetre wave is a short-length radio wave that almost works like a dedicated spectrum pipe for each user and has the potential to deliver wired broadband-level speed. "Jio customers now using 26 GHz mmWave-based business-connectivity across all 22 telecom circles," Reliance Jio said in a statement. The telecom major said it has completed its minimum roll-out obligations in each of the 22 telecom circles, across each of the spectrum bands, ahead of time under the terms of the spectrum allocated to it on August 17, 2022. "On July 19, 2023, RJIL had completed submission of the prescribed details towards completion of the Phase 1 minimum roll-out obligation with the Department of Telecommunications Units and by August 11 2023, necessary DoT testing was completed in all circles," the statement said. Jio Platforms' subsidiary Radisys completes acquisition of Mimosa Networks

Jio Platforms' subsidiary Radisys Corporation on Friday announced that it has completed the acquisition of Mimosa Networks, Inc. from Airspan Networks Holdings Inc. Earlier this year, the companies had announced the deal under which Radisys Corporation signed a definitive agreement with US-based Airspan Networks Holdings for the acquisition of Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million on a debt-free, cash-free basis. According to a release on Friday, "Radisys Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jio Platforms Limited and a global leader of open telecom solutions, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of Mimosa Networks, from Airspan Networks Holdings Inc." RJio gets $2.2 bn from Swedish export credit agency to finance 5G rollout

The country's largest telecom player Reliance Jio has received a USD 2.2 billion fund support from the Swedish export credit agency to finance equipment for the 5G rollout, according to Reliance Industries' annual report. The company has largely procured telecom gears from Swedish firm Ericsson and Finnish company Nokia to deploy its 5G network. "RJIL tied up its first-ever Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN) supported facilities of USD 2.2 billion equivalent making it the largest cover ever provided by EKN for a deal to a private corporate globally. The proceeds of the facilities shall be utilised to finance the equipment and services in relation to RJIL's pan-India 5G roll out," Reliance Industries Ltd said in its annual report. After months of 5G network rollout across the country, India's largest telco Reliance Jio has informed the government that it has achieved 5G rollout obligations in all circles, and is ready to be tested as per stipulated parameters. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has sent out a communication to the Telecom Department (DoT) term cell informing them about rollouts achieved in all circles, according to sources who said that in the next step, the term cells will pick 10 per cent sites for testing. Once the test results meet the required parameters, the certificate about completion of rollout obligation is issued, they explained. Reliance Jio, Airtel drive telecom subscriber base to 1,172.57 mn in May

New customer addition by telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel led to a marginal growth in the country's telecom subscriber base to 1,172.57 million in May, according to a report released by regulator Trai on Tuesday. Subscriber loss of Vodafone Idea, BSNL and MTNL mitigated the growth of the telecom user base in May. "The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,172.52 million at the end of April-23 to 1,172.57 million at the end of May-23, thereby, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.004 per cent," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in its monthly subscriber report. The subscriber base growth came from rural areas, where subscriptions increased to 519.14 million in May from 518.64 million. Jio Platforms net profit up 12.5% to Rs 5,098 crore in Apr-Jun quarter

Digital services company Jio Platforms on Friday posted a 12.5 per cent year-over-year rise in net profit at Rs 5,098 crore in the June 2023 quarter on account of subscriber additions and better realisation per user. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 4,530 crore in the same period a year ago. The revenue from operations of Jio Platforms came in at Rs 26,115 crore during the reported quarter, up 11.3 per cent from 23,467 crore over the year-ago period. The net subscriber addition of the company surpassed 90 lakh with total data traffic jumping over 28 per cent YoY to 33.2 billion gigabytes for the quarter. Trai said Jio tariffs not violationt: Devusinh Chauhan on predatory pricing

Regulator TRAI has taken a view that tariffs offered by Reliance Jio are not in violation of the tariff orders after it received a complaint that live TV channels on the telco's broadband offering amounted to predatory pricing, Parliament was informed on Friday. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) received a complaint from a telecom service provider, where it was alleged that Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) is offering services in contravention of the Tariff orders issued by the regulator. "On receipt of the complaint, TRAI sought response from RJIL. On examination of the complaint and the response received from RJIL, TRAI is of the opinion that the tariffs offered by RJIL are not in violation of the Tariff orders," Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
