Amarinder pays homage to Guru Arjan Dev

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh paid tributes to fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev on his death anniversary today. In a message, the chief minister urged people to follow Guru Arjan Dev's ideals of humanity, secularism and universal brotherhood, whose relevance had remained unwavering through the ages. He said that the Guru's supreme sacrifice was a perpetual source of inspiration for mankind and his spiritual philosophy would continue to guide humanity on the path of 'dharma' (righteousness). His contribution to compilation of Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib and construction of Harmandir Sahib at Amritsar will always be remembered by one and all, Singh said. He said the values enshrined in this holy scripture and place remained deeply embedded in the psyche of the people.

Does loving Hindus mean hating Muslims, asks Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said those who accuse her of appeasing Muslims are friends of neither the Hindus nor the Muslims. "Some accuse me of (doing) Muslim appeasement. The Muslim community in Nagaland today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr by offering namaz at Eidgahs in Kohima and Dimapur districts. They also gave alms to the poor and exchanged gifts with their near and dear ones on the occasion of the festival, marking the end of the Holy Month of Ramzan. Nitish extends Eid greetings to people

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today joined devotees in offering prayer at Gandhi Maidan here on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and prayed for peace and prosperity of the state.
