He needed assistance to even go to toilet: Dhawan lauds Pant's hardwork

Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan has revealed that Rishabh Pant was not even able to perform basic chores like going to washroom all by himself after surviving a horrific car crash in December 2022 but his "positive intent" had helped the star keeper-batter overcome those gloomy days to return fit and strong for the upcoming IPL. "He was in such pain that he wasn't even able to move or do anything for the first few months. Even for the toilet, he needed someone's assistance. From that rough phase to now, he has shown a lot of patience, positivity, and tolerance, and it's a huge thing," Dhawan told Star Sports on Tuesday. "It surely gave him a lot of strength, and I am sure he is going to do wonders for himself and the country," said Dhawan. Pant suffered injuries to his forehead, sustained serious knee injury, had also hurt his right wrist, ankle and toe in the accident. Pant will be leading the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL season after missing the previous edition due to

IPL 2024: Pant declared fit as keeper-batter; Shami, Prasidh ruled out

The BCCI on Tuesday declared Rishabh Pant fit to play as a wicketkeeper-batter in the upcoming Indian Premier League, more than a year after he suffered multiple injuries in a harrowing car crash. Pant, who plays for Delhi Capitals, has undergone extensive rehabilitation and is ready to play the dual role in the event starting March 22. However, Gujarat Titans senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who is out of action since the World Cup final last year, and Prasidh Krishna, who appears for Rajasthan Royals, have been ruled out of the IPL. "After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming IPL 2024," said the BCCI in a statement. Pant was present at the Capitals table during the IPL auction last year, and has been working on his fitness at the NCA since the unfortunate incident. The accident had left P

IPL 2024: Pant on course for comeback, takes part in a practice game of DC

Rishabh Pant remains on course for a much-anticipated comeback in the IPL after taking part in a practice game organised by his franchise Delhi Capitals in Alur, Karnataka. Pant, who met with a horrific car accident in December 2022, has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and is working hard to regain match fitness before the start of the IPL in the second half of March. The southpaw had also featured in an exhibition game last year. "The match was part of assessing his mobility basically. He has been batting at nets for a while and playing in a practice game was more like an extension of it," said a NCA source referring to the intra-squad game in Alur near Bengaluru. Earlier this month, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting had given a major update on Pant, saying the game changing cricketer was confident about his return in the IPL. However, Pant may not be ready for wicketkeeping duties in the competition, as suggested by Ponting at an event in ...

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant confident of playing entire season confirms Ponting

Rishabh Pant is confident of playing the entire IPL but the flamboyant cricketer could only be available as a batter and not behind the stumps, according to Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting. Pant was involved in a life-threatening car accident in December, 2022 that forced him to undergo ligament reconstruction surgeries. "Rishabh is very confident that he's going to be right to play. In what capacity we're not quite sure yet," was quoted as saying by 'ESPNCricinfo'. "You would have seen all the social-media stuff, he's up and about and running well. But in saying that we're only six weeks away from the first game as well. So we're not sure if we'll get wicketkeeping out of him this year." "We'll just keep our fingers crossed and hope that he can be out there and play. Even if it's not all the games, if we can manage him through 10 of the 14 games or whatever that might be then whatever games you can get out of him will be a bonus." In case Pant is not able to fulfil ...

Comparisons with Dhoni hurt but there's nobody like him in my life: Pant

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been Rishabh Pant's sounding board for a while now but there was a time when comparisons with the legendary former India skipper left the young keeper-batter so stressed that he struggled "to breathe". Pant is still recovering from a life-threatening car crash in 2022 and acknowledged that at this stage, Dhoni is the only person with whom he is comfortable sharing just about everything in his life. But he also admitted that comparisons with the iconic Ranchi man were hard to take in the early days of his career. "I used to really feel very bad. I used to go back to my room and cry at 20-21 years of age. Under stress, I couldn't breathe. So much pressure, and I didn't know what to do. I missed a stumping in Mohali, and the crowd started to chant 'Dhoni Dhoni'," Pant said in a 'Star Sports' series that documents his recovery from the accident. Pant said at this point he feels emotionally overwhelmed while talking about his dynamics with the 2011 World Cup ...

Pant reveals he feared leg amputation after life-threatening car crash

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has revealed that he feared the amputation of his right leg in the aftermath of the horrific car crash which he survived 13 months ago. Pant was driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee to meet his family when his car crashed into the median divider on the road in December, 2022. He had just returned from Bangladesh after playing a major role in India's win in the second Test in Mirpur. "If there was any nerve damage, there was a possibility of amputation. That is when I felt scared," Pant said in Star Sports series 'Believe: To Death & Back' which documents his recovery. "I had taken an SUV, but what I was seeing was a sedan," he quipped as he remembered his mangled vehicle. Recounting the initial moments after the crash, the 26-year-old said he was in excruciating pain as his right knee had dislocated, turning 180 degrees to the right as he lay face down. "There was someone around so I asked if he could help getting the leg back in the .

IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant bats at nets, shows improvement in fitness

Rishabh Pant on Tuesday gave another hint of improving fitness and match-readiness while batting for some 20 minutes at the Chinnaswamy nets before his Indian teammates entered the venue for practice. Clad in black shots and T-shirt, Pant faced throwdowns from NCA staff, dishing out some drives on the off-side and a few nudges to the on-side. He exchanged a few words with Indian team's side-arm specialist Raghu before proceeding to meet other members like Virat Kohli, Rinku Singh among others. Pant is continuing his recovery at the NCA from a horrible car accident in late 2022, an accident that forced him to have ligament reconstruction surgeries. Pant is expected to return to action during the IPL 2024 as he has been named as Delhi Capitals captain. The 26-year-old had attended the Capitals camp in November last year, besides being present at the franchise's auction table at Dubai in December. Rishabh Pant's impact changed Indian keeper-batters' mindset: Gilchrist

Rishabh Pant isn't fit to play the upcoming World Cup but former Australian ace Adam Gilchrist is still fascinated by the kind of impact that the burly keeper-batter has had in his six years with the Indian team. Pant, who met with a horrific car accident last December, is currently doing his rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is expected to make a comeback sometime next year. In his absence, KL Rahul will keep wickets for India and Ishan Kishan has a good chance of playing as a specialist middle-order batter. "I think Rishabh has inspired a lot of wicket-keeper batters around the world to play that way (he does). It is fascinating for such a young man to have such an impact that Rishabh has had and others are responding and playing in that positive manner," Gilchrist, who is in India on a promotional visit, told PTI. Gilchrist was impressed how Kishan has shaped up despite knowing that Rahul will be the first keeper. "They (India) are well .

India was clear about No 4 and No 5 batters 18 months ago: Rahul Dravid

India had locked their number four and number five slot for the ODI World Cup almost 18 months ago but injuries to three batters in quick succession threw a spanner in their works, coach Rahul Dravid said on Tuesday. Dravid said that injuries to the likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant forced the team management to try out other players in the middle-order in recent times, and it was not experimenting just for the sake of it. "The No 4 and 5 spots are discussed a lot and gives the impression that we didn't have clarity that who is going to be there. I could have told you 18-19 months ago who the three candidates for the two spots were. "It was always between Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. There was not doubt," Dravid said at India's pre-departure presser ahead of the Asia Cup. "It's unfortunate that all three had injuries in the space of two months. What are the odds of that happening. All three guys pushing for those two spots, had serious injuries, had to go

Rishabh Pant: Wicketkeeper on way to recovery, bats in recreational game

The return of Rishabh Pant to top-flight cricket is keenly awaited, and the wicketkeeper batsman dropped some positive signals when he batted for a few balls during a recreational event on India's Independence Day. Pant has been out of action after suffering multiple injuries in a horrific car accident on the Dehradun-Delhi highway in December last year. In a fan video shared on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Pant was seen stepping out to hammer the ball out of the ground, and roars of onlookers accompanied the shot. The little shimmy down the pitch might have come as a confidence booster for the batter as well because the crash had affected his knee the most. Pant, who has been recuperating at the NCA, visited a sporting facility near Bengaluru to take part in the Independence Day celebrations organised by the JSW Foundation. During the function, Pant exhorted people to keep enjoying sports. Once you keep growing older, you stop loving the game. One of the reasons is
