Centre to open 100 new sainik schools under PPP model: Arunachal minister

Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Passang Dorjee Sona on Friday informed the House that the Centre has initiated the process to set up 100 new sainik schools across the country through public-private partnership (PPP) model. Responding to a question from Independent MLA Laisam Simai regarding the government's plan to set up a Sainik School in Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) districts, Sona said, "The new school would be set up on an affiliation basis through partnerships with NGOs, private institutions and state government-owned schools to meet the growing demand for such institutes." "These schools will be distinct from the existing Sainik Schools under the Ministry of Defence. Communications have already been sent to the district magistrates and collectors by the Sainik School Society," the minister informed. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated the first all-girls sainik school at Vrindavan and termed it as a beacon of light for girls who aspire to join the armed forces and protect the motherland. According to the defence ministry, Samvid Gurukulam Girls Sainik School, the first all-girls sainik school with a strength of about 870 students, has been inaugurated under the initiative of establishing 100 new sainik schools in partnership with NGOs/private/state government schools in all states/Union territories. Defence minister clears setting up of 23 Sainik Schools in partnership mode

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the setting up of 23 new Sainik Schools in partnership mode, officials said on Saturday. The new schools, besides their affiliation to respective education boards, will function under the aegis of the Sainik Schools Society and will follow the Rules and Regulations for new Sainik Schools in partnership mode prescribed by the Society, the Defence Ministry said in a statement. The government has approved the initiative of setting up of 100 new Sainik schools in partnership with NGOs, private schools, and state governments in a graded manner class-wise, starting from Class VI onwards, it said. Under this initiative, a Memorandum of Agreement has been signed by the Sainik Schools Society with 19 new Sainik Schools located all over the country, the statement added. Sainik schools now open for girls also: PM Modi in his I-Day speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that all Sainik Schools in the country will now be open for girls also. At present, 33 Sainik schools are operating in the country. During his Independence Day speech Sunday, the prime minister said that two-and-a-half years ago, the maiden experiment of admitting girls in Sainik schools was carried out in Mizoram. "Now, the government has decided that all the Sainik schools in the country will also be open for the daughters of the country," he said. Sainik schools are run by the Sainik Schools Society which is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. The aim of establishing Sainik schools was to prepare the students from an early age for their entry into the Indian armed forces.
