CSS officer's fall from Shastri Bhawan linked to workplace harassment

A Central Secretariat Service (CSS) official who fell from the seventh floor of Shastri Bhawan here has allegedly told investigators that the incident was a suicide attempt prompted by prolonged workplace harassment, police said on Thursday. The victim, identified as Deepak Khoda (33), is posted with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. However, on Monday, when the incident was reported, the police had said that he slipped while trying to evade a monkey. In a complaint given to the police on October 1 by Khoda, he alleged that he tried to attempt suicide due to repeatedly being humiliated by senior colleagues over several months, which made him "depressed." Khoda, who has been working in the ministry for the last nine years, alleged that he has been harassed by senior officers, including the additional secretary and deputy secretary, for the past several months. He also alleged that they have threatened to ruin his career and also warned him of taking legal action.

Godman Chaitanyananda produced in Delhi court, police seek 5-day custody

Chaitanyananda Saraswati was produced before a Delhi court on Sunday, with police seeking 5-day custody of the self-styled godman accused of sexually harassing 17 women students at a private institute here, officials said. The 62-year-old accused, who was apprehended from Agra Sunday morning, was produced before Duty Magistrate Ravi at 3:40 pm. A Delhi Police team traced Saraswati to Agra, where he was staying at a hotel, officials said. Earlier, police froze Rs 8 crore linked to Saraswati, which was parked in multiple bank accounts and fixed deposits. According to the FIR, Saraswati, a former chairman of a management institute in southwest Delhi, allegedly forced female students to visit his quarter late at night, and sent them inappropriate text messages at odd hours. Delhi Police issues lookout circular against godman in harassment case

The Delhi Police has issued a lookout circular against self-styled godman Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, the main accused in a harassment case, an official said on Wednesday. "A lookout circular (LOC) has been issued against him to prevent any attempt to flee the country," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said. The officer further said that multiple police teams are conducting raids across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand in connection with the case. The development comes after several women students of a private management institute accused Saraswati of harassment, alleging that he summoned them to his room and threatened to lower their marks or fail them. Some students have also claimed that he lured them with promises of foreign trips. 19 sexual harassment cases reported in colleges, univ in Odisha: Minister

In all, 19 sexual harassment complaints have been filed in different colleges and universities across the state in 2024, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj informed the Assembly on Friday. Replying to a question by BJD legislator Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, the minister said the complaints have been lodged by women students in government degree colleges, non-government aided degree colleges and public universities of the state in the past year. He said two cases each were reported in Utkal University, RD Women's University, Government Autonomous CollegeRourkela, BJB Autonomous CollegeBhubaneswar and Choudwar College. FIR registered against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil for stalking women

A case was registered against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil on Wednesday by the Kerala police for various offences, including stalking and harassing women on social media. The development came hours after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram that all possible legal steps would be taken in connection with the allegations against Mamkootathil. A nursing officer at AIIMS Bhubaneswar was arrested for "sexually harassing" a woman attendant at the medical facility, police said on Tuesday. Accused nursing officer Nanu Ram Choudhury was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, after a complaint was lodged against him at the Khandagiri Police Station in the city, a senior officer said. Delhi court acquits man of rape, orders perjury proceedings against woman

It takes one's lifetime to build a reputation, but a few lies can destroy it, said a Delhi court while acquitting a man of rape charge and directing initiation of perjury proceedings against the woman for filing a false case. Additional Sessions Judge Anuj Agrawal was hearing the case against the man, who was accused of raping the complainant in a hotel here on the intervening night of November 23-24, 2019. "It is evident from record that prosecutrix gave false deposition before this court and concocted a mendacious story of rape/threat," the court said in its verdict dated April 4 and acquitted the accused. The court noted that the woman had filed six similar rape and molestation cases in past against different persons and according to Delhi Police she was "in habit of giving false complaint of molestation and eve-teasing".
