Could've held rally at Shivaji Park, didn't for sake of law & order: Shinde

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said his party Shiv Sena could have held its Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park ground in Mumbai, but as the head of the government he decided not to go ahead with the plan for the sake of maintaining law and order. The statement came hours after the ruling Shiv Sena withdrew its application submitted to the Mumbai civic body seeking permission for a rally on Dussehra at the iconic ground in Dadar, thus avoiding a potential face-off with the rival faction led by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, which, too, wants to use the sprawling site for its programme the same day. Taking a dig at the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) headed by Thackeray, Shinde said if the Congress is "pampered" from the ground which gave a call for Hindutva, then it cannot be the Shiv Sena's Dussehra rally. The Congress is an ally of the Shiv Sena (UBT). The Shinde-led Sena and the Shiv Sena (UBT) had both sought the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) .

Both Shiv Sena factions seek BMC's nod for Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received applications from both the Shiv Sena factions for holding the annual Dussehra rally at the iconic Shivaji Park here, a civic official said. Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had started the tradition of holding the Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park in Dadar area of Mumbai. The BMC received an application on October 1 from MLA Sada Sarvankar, belonging to the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde, and another application from the Shiv Sena (UBT) central office on October 7, the official told PTI. "We have received two applications for the Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park," the official said. Dussehra festival will be celebrated on October 24 this year. Police registered an FIR against Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil on Wednesday, a day after he made the acting dean of a government hospital in Nanded, where 31 patients died in 48 hours, clean a dirty toilet and urinals, according to police. MVA forms committees for INDIA bloc meet in Mumbai on Aug 31, Sep 1

The Maha Vikas Aghadi comprising the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP and Congress has formed several committees to plan various aspects of the meeting of the opposition bloc INDIA on August 31 and September 1 in Mumbai. Sources on Friday said the committees, which include two leaders from each of the three parties, will take care of media, social media, accommodation, transport among other things. The Congress will handle media and publicity, while the Nationalist Congress Party will take care of transport. The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Tuesday slammed the Centre over its decision to impose 40 per cent export duty on onions and claimed the government's policy is neither beneficial to farmers nor consumers. An editorial in the Sena (UBT) mouthpiece 'Saamana' further claimed the Modi government gives assurances of doubling the income of farmers, but works in a way that they do not even get the expected income. On August 19, the central government imposed 40 per cent export duty on onions to restrict outward shipments and boost local availability, amid apprehension about the kharif output and signs of firming of retail prices.
