Automobile exports from India rose by 19 per cent to over 53 lakh units in the last 2024-25 fiscal year driven by robust demand for passenger vehicles, two wheelers and commercial vehicles in the overseas markets. Overall exports last fiscal stood at 53.63 lakh (53,63,089) units as compared with 45 lakh (45,00,494) units in 2023-24 fiscal ending March 31, 2024. Passenger vehicle shipments rose by 15 per cent to 7,70,364 units last fiscal as against 6,72,105 units in FY24. The segment reported its best ever yearly performance last fiscal driven by demand for global models being manufactured in India, industry body SIAM stated. Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches from factories to company dealers rose 1.9 per cent year-on-year to 3,77,689 units in February, industry body SIAM said on Thursday. The total passenger vehicle wholesales stood at 3,70,786 units in February 2024. Total two-wheeler dispatches, however, witnessed a dip of 9 per cent year-on-year to 13,84,605 units last month. Total sales stood at 15,20,761 units in February last year.

Siam Cement BigBloc Construction, a subsidiary and JV of BigBloc Construction Ltd, has bagged an order from Tata Project to supply material to Micron's semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat, a statement said. The work order from Tata Projects Ltd is for the supply and installation of AAC panels at the semiconductor unit of Micron India in Sanand, BigBloc Construction said in the statement. The order for 100 mm AAC panels, to be completed in three months, is valued at around Rs 4.5 crore. The subsidiary will supply and install steel-reinforced AAC panels, ranging from 2 metres to 6 metres in the project, the statement added. Siam Cement BigBloc Construction is a joint venture between Gujarat-based BigBloc Construction and Thailand's SCG International Corporation Co Ltd. The JV has bagged its first big order after commencing operations at the Rs 65-crore AAC wall plant in Kheda, Gujarat. The plant has an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh cubic metres for large-format AAC Wall products.

Auto industry body SIAM on Wednesday welcomed the government's decision to approve two schemes with a total outlay of Rs 14,335 crore to promote electric vehicles, saying the forward thinking initiative will make clean and green transportation more accessible to all. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two schemes -- PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme with an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over a period of two years, and PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme with a budget of Rs 3,435 crore. Auto industry body Siam on Tuesday said it has elected Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra as its new President for the 2024-25 term. Chandra, who previously served as the vice-president of Siam, succeeds Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV), the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) said in a statement. The new office bearers were elected during the executive committee meeting held today (Tuesday), it added. Ashok Leyland MD & CEO Shenu Agarwal was elected as the vice-president of Siam for 2024-25. The government is working on a policy for scrappage of vehicles to be based on pollution and not on the age of the automobiles, an official said on Tuesday. Speaking at the annual convention of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Secretary Anurag Jain asked the automobile industry to help the government in designing the programme of pollution checks "trustworthy". "When you come out with a policy that scrapping is mandatory after 15 years, people come back to us with a question -- if I have maintained my vehicle well, why do you want to scrap my vehicle? You can't mandate," Jain said. In order to consider such situations, he said, "We are studying it from the pollution (point) only." The government is "working at a policy" for the same, he added. The Indian automotive industry has crossed Rs 20 lakh crore mark in FY24 and now contributes 14-15 per cent of the total GST collected in the country, SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal said on Monday. The auto sector also contributes significantly to the direct and indirect employment generation in the country, he said while speaking at the 64th annual ACMA session here. "The Indian automotive industry has crossed a landmark figure of Rs 20 lakh crore (around USD 240 million) in FY24...we are contributing almost 14-15 per cent of the total GST collected in the country," Aggarwal said.
