The officer said the Rohingya, who had already paid the traffickers some money, would be taken back to the camp. Delhi HC declines plea against AP govt schemes ahead of polls

The Delhi High Court Friday declined the plea of an organisation alleging that the Andhra Pradesh government has attempted to influence voters by launching schemes, including giving monetary benefits, ahead of polls. Justice Yogesh Khanna said there was no need to interfere in the issue. The court was informed that in pursuance to its earlier directions, the Election Commission has taken a decision on the representations of Jana Chaitanya Vedika, which had alleged that disbursal of money under these schemes after the Lok Sabha election has been notified amounted to violation of the model code of conduct. The EC, in its speaking order, said the scheme in question was announced prior to the coming into force of the model code of conduct (MCC) and the commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Andhra Pradesh through a April 2 letter to follow the instructions and that no publicity should be given on release of funds. Yemen schoolchildren killed by unexploded ordnance: UN

Two children were killed and eight critically wounded when an unexploded bomb went off at a school in the rebel-held Yemeni capital, the UN children's agency said on Friday. A child had found the bomb and brought it to Al-Fatah school in the Hamdan district of Sanaa on Wednesday to show friends, UNICEF said in a statement. The casualties were aged between 12 and 14. Children often fall victim to unexploded ordnance, failing to fully appreciate the dangers. "It is highly likely, as we've seen in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere, that children will continue to be killed even when there's a lull in violence or the violence comes to an end," said UNICEF's regional chief of communications, Juliette Touma. The World Health Organisation estimates nearly 10,000 Yemenis have been killed since 2015, when Saudi Arabia and its allies intervened to prevent the defeat of the government in the face of a rebel offensive. Human rights groups say the real death toll is several times higher. The conflict has ..

Digital screen time has minimal impact on adolescent's mental well being: Study

The much-hyped notion that watching TV or being in front of mobile screens before bedtime impacts the well being has shown little evidence in a recent study published in the journal 'Psychological Science'."Implementing best practice statistical and methodological techniques we found little evidence for substantial negative associations between digital-screen engagement and adolescent well-being," said Amy Orben, Researcher. The researchers collected data from more than 17,000 teenagers. It came out that an adolescent's total screen time per day had a minimal impact on their mental well being, both on weekdays and weekends. Also, the study pointed out that the use of 1 hour, 2 hours or even 30 minutes before bedtime didn't have a clear association with a deteriorating overall well being."Because technologies are embedded in our social and professional lives, research concerning digital-screen use and its effects on adolescent well-being are under increasing scrutiny," said Orben.
