Former India off-spinner Aashish Kapoor has been appointed chairman of the All-India Junior Selection Committee, the BCCI informed today. The 47-year-old Kapoor replaces ex-speedster Venkatesh Prasad, who in March, had tendered his resignation from the post of chairman, less than a month after the India won the U-19 World Cup. Apart from Kapoor, the other two members of the selection panel include Gyanendra Pandey and Rakesh Parikh. A former off spinner, Kapoor played four Tests and 17 ODIs for India, including the 1996 ICC World Cup. He has also played 128 first-class games and 93 List A matches. Prasad had worked as the head of the junior national selection committee for 30 months.
The Indian men and women's compound teams advanced to the bronze medal play-offs on a day of disappointments in stage one of the Archery World Cup here today. The trio of Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Chinna Raju Srither lost 233-236 to their Korean opponents in the men's compound semifinal and they will face France for the bronze. Rahil Gangjee found two birdies in last three holes for a good one-under 69 to start with in the Crowns 2018 tournament on the Japan Tour today. The 39-year-old Gangjee, who got into the tournament following a win last week at the Panasonic Open Japan, was lying tied 21st and four shots behind the leaders, Anthony Quayle and Rikuya Hoshino, who carded 5-under 65 each. The Football Association revealed today that they have received an offer to buy iconic Wembley stadium. The London Evening Standard reported that Shahid Khan, who owns Championship club Fulham and the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, is behind the ?500 million ($698 million) bid to buy the national stadium. "We can confirm that the FA has received an offer to buy Wembley Stadium," an FA statement read. According to the Standard, Khan has struck an outline agreement with FA boss Martin Glenn to transfer Wembley to foreign ownership for the first time. The shock proposal was being put before the full board of the domestic game's governing body on Thursday. Wembley, which has a 90,000-capacity, was reopened in 2007 after the FA's seven-year, ?757 million rebuild of the home of English football. World athletics' governing body today introduced controversial new rules for female athletes who have high testosterone levels in a move seen as targeting South Africa's double Olympic 800 metres champion Caster Semenya. The new rules will allow such athletes to compete only if they take medication to reduce naturally occurring levels of testosterone. Semenya has long raised controversy because of her powerful physique and deep voice related to hyperandrogenism, the medical condition which causes a person to produce high levels of male sex hormones. She replied to the new rules, which come into effect on November 1, 2018, by retweeting messages of support and the slogan: "How beautiful it is to stay silent when someone expects you to be enraged."
