Bottom-placed Delhi Dynamos were left to rely on a late strike from substitute Kalu Uche to get the better of NorthEast United FC 1-0 in the Indian Super League here today. After a rather timid first half, Delhi finally broke the deadlock with Uche's thunderous header in the 87th minute of the match at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. David Ngaihte floated in a cross from the right and the ball just held up for Uche, who jumped to produce a header, which did not give the NorthEast United goalkeeper any chance. Incidentally, the goal was the only shot on target by the Dynamos in the 90 plus four minutes of added time. Lord's to host West Indies-Rest of the World XI fund-raising T20I
World champions West Indies will take on a Rest of the World XI in a one-off T20 International at Lord's later this year, to raise funds for Caribbean cricket grounds damaged by recent hurricanes. The match will be played on May 31 and the ICC has confirmed its full support by granting it international status. The proceeds from the fund-raising match will go towards restoring the stadiums -- James Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla and Dominica's Windsor Park Stadium -- damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September last year, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) said in a statement. Jinson Johnson claimed an easy victory in the mens 800m run as India managed a rich haul of 22 medals, including 13 gold, at the Asian Games invitational tournament that concluded here today. Johnsons gold was one of three medals won by Indian athletes on the final days competition at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. India won gold in the mens and womens 4x400m events. Tamil Nadu beat Manipur 2-1 to lift their maiden title in the 23rd edition of the Senior Womens National Football Championship here today. Tamil Nadu created history by becoming champions in their first-ever final with Indumathi scoring the opener in the 3rd minute while Indrani made it 2-0 in the 40th.
