Australian Matt Kelly replaces injured Abrich Nortje in KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders Thursday signed uncapped Australian pacer Matt Kelly to replace their injured South African import Anrich Nortje in the ongoing IPL. The 24-year-old Kelly, a right-arm pace bowler, has played 16 First-Class matches, five List A games and 12 T20s so far and has not featured in the past editions of the IPL, the franchise said in a statement. The 25-year-old Nortje was ruled out of the tournament right at the start when he sustained a shoulder injury. Nortje was bought by the KKR at his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

French bosses fear Champions League changes
The French Football League (LFP) fired a broadside on Wednesday at plans to revamp the Champions League, saying proposed changes would weaken national championships. The league's board said in a statement it was "deeply concerned" that club finances and playing standards would suffer if plans backed by European football's governing body UEFA went through. It called for an emergency meeting of the league to take an official stand on the controversial plans. A revamped Champions League from 2024 would feature four groups of eight teams in the pool phase as opposed to the eight groups of four in the current format, according to media reports. The top six teams in each group would qualify for the following year's edition regardless of where they finish in their domestic competition, according to reports. K L Rahul smashed his maiden IPL hundred while Chris Gayle struck a 36-ball 63 to power Kings XI Punjab to an imposing 197 for four against Mumbai Indians in an IPL match, here Wednesday. Gayle, who smashed seven towering sixes and also hit three fours, laid the platform for the big total with his opening partner Rahul, who carried his bat through to remain unconquered on 100, laced with six sixes and as many fours. The duo's 116-run stand in 77 balls took MI by storm. Gayle's dismissal in the 13th over slowed down the innings but Rahul punished Hardik Pandya by hitting three sixes and a four in the 19th, which yielded them 25 runs.
