Hero MotoSports team continues strong show at Merzouga Rally

Hero MotoSports team drivers Oriol Mena and Joaquim Rodrigues finished the penultimate stage of the 2019 Merzouga Rally at sixth and 11th places respectively on Friday. With just one more stage to go, Mena was at third place while Rodrigues stood at fourth in the provisional overall rankings. The riders lost some time initially in trying to find the right way into the stage but managed to get on to the right path with each other's help. Later, Rodrigues broke his GPS while negotiating a tricky downhill section, forcing him to stop a few times to fix it, losing more time in the process. Even with these difficulties, the duo made good time to finish the stage reasonably well. The second part of the marathon stage was another long day, with 219km route to be run under the sun, before the riders could get back to the comforts of the Rally bivouac, and get reunited with their assistance teams. Now with the toughest of the stages behind them, the main focus of the competitors will be to ...

Did Delhi Capitals pitch coordinator 'mislead' Ponting on Kotla track?

Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting might have blamed the Feroz Shah Kotla groundsmen for providing the team with the "worst pitch" but the head coach may not have been properly briefed about the nature of the track by his team's support staff. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by five wickets on a low and slow Kotla track, which suited the visiting team's slow bowlers more than the home attack, prompting criticism from Ponting. "I think it is fair to say that the wicket surprised us a lot. Talking to the groundsmen before the match, we thought this would be the best pitch that we had by far but it was the worst. You saw how little it bounced and how slow it was," an angry Ponting told reporters after the match. However, a senior Delhi & Districts Cricket Association Official (DDCA) official said that neither did Ponting speak to any of the groundsmen, nor was he promised a fast and fast track. "To the best of my knowledge, Ricky Ponting only takes inputs from Delhi Capitals' ...

Not having venue to host AFC Cup match, Minerva Punjab contemplates to shut shop

Minerva Punjab owner Ranjt Bajaj Friday said he was contemplating "shutting" down his club as he could not find a venue to host the I-League side's AFC Cup home match on May 1. Minerva is scheduled to play against Manang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal in a Group E match on May 1 and Bajaj claimed that the Odisha government has withdrawn its earlier permission to allow to use Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar under pressure from All India Football Federation. The AIFF, however, rejected the allegation, saying that it has nothing to do with the issue as the stadium is owned by the Odisha government. Bajaj said that the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier given clearance to use the stadium for the match. "Yes, we are thinking of shutting the club. What is the point of playing in a country where the national federation is trying to sabotage the clubs. Even after getting permission from the Odisha Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik, who has retweeted my old post, the AIFF denied us ...
