HC seeks Delhi govt's reply on plea concerning mental health of students

The Delhi High Court Monday sought response from the Delhi government on a petition concerning mental health of students in schools and colleges. A bench of Justices D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh issued notice on the PIL by Devina Singh, a 17 year old student, for implementation of Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 in educational institutions. The court also sought response from the Institute Of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences, New Delhi. Relying on the National Mental Health Survey of India 2015-16, Singh, who was represented by senior advocate Sonia Mathur, has contended that children and adolescents are vulnerable to mental disorders and the healthcare system does not prioritise mental health. Singh has claimed that stress, fear, depression, insomnia, disconnectedness and lack of self-confidence, are the issues widely prevalent among students but left unattended. After CBSE, CISCE cancels Class 12 board exams in view of pandemic

The CISCE on Tuesday decided to cancel Class 12 board examinations this year in view of the COVID-19 situation, according to its secretary Gerry Arathoon. "The exams have been cancelled. The alternative assessment criteria will be announced soon," Arathoon told PTI. The decision by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) came after the central government announced cancelling the CBSE Class 12 board exams following a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was decided that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner. 54 students at school hostel test coronavirus positive in Hayana's Karnal

Fifty four students of a school near here have tested COVID-19 positive leading to suspension of classes and other academic activities, an official said on Tuesday. Karnal Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Yogesh Sharma said three students of Sainik School Kunjpura had tested positive for the virus on Monday following which the health department took samples of 390 students and staff members of the school for testing. "The reports revealed that 54 students are COVID-19 positive," Sharma said. Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said the school building and its hostels have been declared as a containment zone. The Sainik Schools are run by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence and the students stay in hostels. The Haryana education department had reopened schools for classes 9-12 in December last year and classes 3-5 from February 24.
