Telangana farmers wait for red gram board a year after receiving GI tag

It's been almost a year now since a local variety of tur dal (red gram) grown in the Tandur assembly segment, received the geographical indication (GI) tag. However, many farmers are still unaware of its significance, leaving aside taking advantage of it in the absence of a board which the ruling BRS (then TRS) promised during the 2014 poll campaign. The famous 'Tandur red gram' is the 16th GI product from Telangana. The Geographical Indication tag was granted in December 2022 to the Yalal Farmers Producers Company Ltd, which had applied for 'Tandur red gram' with the support of Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU). It is the first agricultural commodity in the state to get the GI tag. GI tag is a status given to a product belonging exclusively to a particular area. The quality, reputation and any other characteristics of that particular product is generally attributed to the geographical origin of the product. Tandur assembly segment, located 115 km

Congress sends 10 ministers, 48 senior leaders to poll-bound Telangana

The Congress seems to be using its entire might from Karnataka in Telangana, seeking to emulate its success there, with the party sending 10 ministers and 48 senior leaders from the state for election management to its poll-bound neighbour. While 10 ministers from Karnataka have been appointed as AICC cluster in-charges, 48 other party leaders -- mostly MLAs and MLCs -- have been appointed as AICC assembly constituency observers for various districts in Telangana, which goes to polls on November 30. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also KPCC chief, are leading from the front in the election push in Telangana. Telangana assembly polls: BJP announces fourth list of 12 candidates

The BJP on Tuesday announced its fourth list of 12 candidates for the November 30 assembly elections in Telangana. The candidates announced by the party in the fourth list are Durgam Ashok (Chennur-SC), V Subhash Reddy (Yellareddy constituency), Tula Uma (Vemulawada), Bomma Sriram Chakravarthy (Husnabad), Doodi Srikanth Reddy (Siddipet), Peddinti Naveen Kumar (Vikarabad-SC), Bantu Ramesh Kumar (Kodangal), Boya Shiva (Gadwal), Sadineni Srinivas (Miryalguda), Chalamala Krishna Reddy (Munugode), Nakarakanti Mogulaiah (Nakrekal-SC) and Azmeera Prahlad Naik (Mulug-ST). With the latest list, the BJP has so far announced candidates for 100 out of the total 119 assembly segments. In the remaining 19 seats, the BJP is likely to offer some seats to its NDA ally Janasena of actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan.
