The Supreme Court on Monday refused to examine a plea for a direction to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to ensure the milk used for the worship of Lord Venkatesh should be taken only from indigenous cows. A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh declined to pass any direction on the matter. "There are much more important issues than this. The true love for god lies in serving fellow living beings, and not in these things," the bench said. The top court was hearing a plea filed by Yuga Thulasi Foundation seeking directions to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to ensure only the milk of indigenous cows was used for the worship and bhog prasad (sacred food offering) of Lord Venkatesh. The counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that worship has to be conducted as per the Agamashastras (Hindu scriptures) and sought implementation of an existing resolution.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, the official custodian of Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati received offerings worth Rs 112 crore in February from more than 19 lakh devotees, said an official on Saturday. TTD Executive Officer (EO) A V Dharma Reddy shared the statistics for February with reporters after concluding the monthly Dial Your EO programme. Hundi (offerings) collections amounted to Rs 112 crore while more than 19 lakh devotees had darshan (visit) in February, said Reddy in a press release. The Trust Board of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the official custodian of Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati on Monday approved a budget estimate of Rs 5,142 crore for the year 2024-25. The budget, a slight increase from Rs 5,123 crore in 2023-24 was approved in a board meeting chaired by TTD chairman B Karunakara Reddy. According to the budget highlights shared with PTI, hundi kanuka (devotees' offerings) emerged as the largest source of funds at Rs 1,611 crore for the world-famous temple, maintaining the same level as the previous year. Interest receipts at Rs 1,167 crore are the second-largest source of funds, showing an increase of Rs 100 crore from 2023-24, followed by prasadams receipts (consecrated food) at Rs 600 crore (compared to Rs 550 crore) and an opening cash and bank balance of Rs 347 crore.
