State-owned Bank of Baroda (BoB) on Friday announced that it has enabled the UPI ATM facility at over 6,000 ATMs across the country. It is the first public sector bank to launch UPI ATMs, in coordination with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and powered by NCR Corporation, BoB said in a statement. Customers as well as customers of all participating issuer banks using any UPI-enabled Mobile app can withdraw cash from Bank of Baroda UPI ATMs without using their debit card, it said. Using the Interoperable Cardless Cash Withdrawal (ICCW) technology, which facilitates cardless cash withdrawals through ATMs, the UPI ATM enables seamless QR-based cash withdrawals, doing away with the need to carry a Card to withdraw cash, it said. One of the major benefits of the UPI ATM facility is that customers can withdraw cash from multiple accounts linked to UPI, it said. State-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Tuesday announced the launch of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) interoperability feature in its digital rupee mobile application. This move is in line with the RBI's CBDC pilot project and unleashes a new potential in India's payment ecosystem, PNB said in a statement. PNB customers can now use the PNB digital rupee app to scan the UPI QR code for payment to their merchants or complete a transaction at a merchant outlet, it said. Even if the merchants do not have a CBDC Wallet, PNB digital rupee app users can utilise their CBDC wallets to conduct transactions on the UPI QR of these merchants, it added. The app with this new functionality is currently available for Android users on the Play store and will also be made live for iOS users, it said.

India has the potential to do 100 billion Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions a month, a top official from the National Payments Corporation of India said on Tuesday. This would be a 10-time growth over the 10 billion transactions achieved by the 2016-launched platform in August. Dilip Asbe, chief executive officer and managing director of NPCI, said there are 350 million UPI users at present and pegged the growth opportunity in merchants and users at 3 times more. "...if you take the combined effect, we have a 10x opportunity from where we stand," Asbe said speaking at the Global Fintech Fest here. He declined to specify a date by which NPCI aims to reach there, but said that by 2030, India will witness 2 billion transactions a day. With this move, the bank aims to deliver unprecedented convenience and accessibility to its customers, SBI said in a statement. This cutting-edge feature, accessible through the 'eRupee by SBI' application will empower SBI CBDC users to effortlessly scan any merchant UPI QR code for swift and secure transactions, it said. SBI was among the first few banks to participate in the RBI's retail digital e-rupee project in December 2022.
