No fault of police in killing of Atiq Ahmad, his brother: UP govt tells SC

The Uttar Pradesh government has told the Supreme Court that "no fault" has been found on the part of the police in an ongoing probe into the killing of dreaded gangster and former Lok Sabha member Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj on April 15. In a status report filed in the apex court, the state of Uttar Pradesh has said it has left no stone unturned to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the incident and other cases, including the killing of gangster Vikas Dubey and various police encounters since 2017, raised by the petitioner. Ahmad (60) and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college for examination on April 15. 'Govt allocated Rs 100 cr for Aspirational Blocks Programme this fiscal'

The government in this financial year has allocated Rs 100 crore for the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), which aims to improve governance at the block level, in order to enhance the quality of life of citizens, a top government official said on Saturday. The Aspirational Blocks Programme is being implemented in 500 aspirational blocks across 329 districts in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide programme on January 7. "The government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the Aspirational Blocks Programme in 2023-24... We expect that all 500 backward blocks will reach the state average in terms of development," the official said on the condition of anonymity. Out of 500 aspirations blocks, 160 blocks are part of the 112 aspirational districts. Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of blocks (68) under this programme, followed by Bihar (61) and Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday sought detailed reports on the vacancies in all state departments and directed that steps be taken to speed up the recruitment process a various levels. The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to appoint a senior IPS officer to probe the case of a school boy who was allegedly slapped by his classmates on the instruction of his teacher in Muzaffarnagar, terming the incident as "serious" A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal, while directing that the IPS officer shall file a report in the apex court, asked the state government to conduct counselling of the victim and other students, who were involved in the case, by professional counsellors. Govt sacked over 50 docs, served notices to 724 found absent: UP Dy CM

The Uttar Pradesh government has sacked over 50 doctors and served notices to more than 700 medical practitioners found absent from their place of posting, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has said. He, however, asserted that the shortage of government doctors in Uttar Pradesh will be over very soon as the recruitment of specialist doctors has already started. According to official data, against a sanctioned strength of 19,000, Uttar Pradesh has around 12,000 doctors at government facilities across the state. However, there are of complaints that many doctors do not attend duty at the place of posting. PM Modi inaugurates 16 residential schools for needy children in UP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated 16 residential schools for needy children in Uttar Pradesh, built at a cost of about Rs 1,115 crore. These schools - Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas - have been opened to provide quality education to children of labourers and construction workers and those orphaned in the COVID-19 pandemic. Before dedicating these schools to the nation, Prime Minister Modi interacted with some students. The residential schools, built at a cost of about Rs 1,115 crore, intend to accommodate 1,000 students each. These will enhance access to quality education and help in holistic development of children. Ensure flood victims get compensation within 24 hours: UP CM to officials

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed officials to ensure that flood victims get compensation within 24 hours. He also assured that the "double engine" government of the BJP was standing with the people affected by the floods. The CM, who was in Amritpur's Jamapur to distribute flood relief material, asked the officials to prepare a system so that it does not take more than 24 hours to give compensation to flood victims. About 700 villages in the state are hit by floods. There is flood in some parts and a drought in the other and this strange situation is prevalent across the state, he said. Companies of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) are engaged in flood relief and rescue work. UP govt to implement self-assessment system to make cities garbage free

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement a self-assessment system in urban bodies, in line with its commitment towards the Swachh Bharat Mission, with a view to making cities garbage free. The self-assessment will be done in every urban body till August 30 while a meeting to review the progress will be held on September 4, a senior official said on Sunday. A mock assessment in urban bodies in April underlined the need to continue the efforts being made towards achieving the target of garbage-free cities under the 2023 edition of Swachh Survekshan. Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat said the self-assessment will be done through a dedicated Google Form that will define the standard of each parameter. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday expressed grief over the deaths in a fire that broke out inside a stationary train compartment at the Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu.
