Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Brajesh Pathak has attacked opposition parties, saying they are a "group of people greedy for power", and exuded confidence that his party will win all the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the 2024 general elections. The people are with the BJP and have great faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he will return to power for a third consecutive term, he said. 4 more workers die in UP lift crash, toll 8, Rs 25 lakh compensation issued

Four more workers, who were hospitalised after a service lift crashed at an under-construction society in Noida Extension, succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, pushing the death toll in the incident to eight, officials said. A financial compensation of Rs 25 lakh each has been issued for families of those killed in the incident, a senior officer said. The lift had nine workers in it when it fell from the 14th floor of an under-construction tower at an Amrapali Dream Valley project site in Noida Extension, also known as Greater Noida (West), on Friday morning. The long-stalled project is being completed by the state-run NBCC under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. "Four workers had died after the incident on Friday. Five of them were admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition. Preserve evidence found during Gyanvapi survey: Varanasi court to ASI

The Varanasi District Court has ordered the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to preserve and document evidence found during the survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, and submit a list to it and the district magistrate. District Judge A K Vishwesh passed the order on Wednesday and a copy was served to the government counsel as well as to the lawyers of the Hindu and Muslim sides the next day, according to Madan Mohan Yadav, who represents the Hindu side in the case. He said the court had heard the matter on September 8 in the presence of lawyers from all parties -- Hindu and Muslim sides, and the government. Plaintiff Rakhi Singh of the Hindu side had urged the court to direct the district magistrate to stop the entry of Muslims in the Gyanvapi mosque complex for securing the complex and safeguarding the evidence found during the survey. GMR Group bags Rs 2,470 cr order to install smart meters in Uttar Pradesh

GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Private Ltd has bagged Rs 2,469.71 crore smart meter installation project in Uttar Pradesh, the company said on Wednesday. GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Private Ltd (GSEDPL), a GMR Group company, has received a Letter of Award (LOA) to install smart meters in the Agra and Aligarh zones in UP, GMR Power and Urban Infra Ltd (GPUIL) said. "GMR Group receives LOA for smart metering project from Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL)," GPUIL said in a regulatory filing. The total contract value (inclusive of GST) for Agra and Aligarh zone is about Rs 2,469.71 crore, it said. The GSEDPL will install, integrate and maintain 25.52 lakh smart meters in the aforementioned areas, GPUIL said. The project is expected to be completed in 27 months, it added.

Atiq Ahmad benami assets case: I-T department summons BPL cardholder

Widening its probe into the alleged benami assets amassed by slain gangster-politican Atiq Ahmad, the Income Tax department has issued fresh summons to a BPL cardholder security guard, who allegedly held about six land parcels worth crores in Uttar Pradesh, and recorded the statements of those linked to him. An Income Tax department team also reached the home of the security guard -- Suraj Pal -- in Prayagraj district's Pipalgaon and handed over the summons issued in his name to his family members. Pal is stated to be absconding and, according to the statement given to the department by his daughter, the family does know his whereabouts. The Income Tax department has identified Pal as the 'benamidar (in whose name a benami property is standing)' of more than 40 land assets of Atiq Ahmad and his gang members. Ahmad (60) and his brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf were shot dead by three assailants in April when they were being taken for a health checkup by police in Prayagraj. Pal is
