Voltbek Home Appliances, a joint venture between Voltas and Turkish firm Arelik, narrowed its losses to Rs 241.89 crore in FY25 while its revenue from operations rose 39.5 per cent to Rs 2,235.53 crore. The air-conditioning industry will comply with the new temperature standardisation announced by the government within a couple of months, including resetting its inventory, without passing any additional costs to consumers. Leading room-air conditioner (RAC) makers such as Voltas, LG Electronics, Blue Star and Haier have welcomed the move and said the move will not only help the industry to grow sustainably by saving energy, but also optimise energy consumption, reduce grid load in peak summers and also extend the lifespan of the units. On Tuesday, Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the government is working on a framework to standardise the default temperatures of air conditioners, including those in automobiles, in the range of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius. Home appliances maker Voltas on Wednesday reported over twofold rise in net profit at Rs 236 crore for March quarter FY25 driven by higher revenues. It had posted a net profit of Rs 111 crore in the January-March period of the preceding 2023-24 financial year, the company said in a regulatory filing. Total income increased to Rs 4,847 crore in the fourth quarter from Rs 4,257 crore in the same period a year ago. For the entire FY25, net profit increased multi-fold to Rs 834 crore from Rs 248 crore in FY24. The board of directors recommended a dividend of Rs 7 per share of face value of Re 1 per share for 2024-25. The Unitary Cooling Products business continued to maintain its growth momentum. Air conditioning maker and engineering services provider Voltas Ltd has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 130.76 crore for the third quarter ended December 2024. It had posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 27.60 crore in the October-December period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from the company. The Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Voltas Ltd to pay Rs 10,000 to a consumer for failing to repair an air conditioner (AC) unit, observing that it caused him mental agony and physical distress during the summer months. The Commission was hearing the appeal of the consumer seeking enhancement of the Rs 2,000 compensation awarded by a district forum for failing to repair or service a defective AC unit. The Commission comprising its president Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal and member Pinki noted the evidence before it and said, "We have no hesitation in observing that the deficiency in service from the respondent (Voltas) is limited to the failure of servicing and repairing the AC during the extended warranty period." The order passed on November 6 said expenses for the repairs cannot be paid by the consumer.
