The national capital, though at 39.2 degree Celsius, a notch above the season's average on Friday, still saw relief with three degrees drop in maximum temperature, a Met official said, but the air quality still remained "very poor".
"Several districts of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region continued to reel under intense heat with Chandrapur today recording the region's highest temperature at 45.6 degrees Celsius, local meteorological department officials said. Officials of the Regional Meteorological Centre here said that apart from Chandrapur, areas like Brahmapuri at 44.3 degrees Celsius, Wardha and Akola at 44.2 degrees Celsius, Nagpur at 44.1 degrees Celsius and Yavatmal at 43.5 degrees Celsius were also facing a heat wave. "Amravati today was at 42.6 degrees Celsius, Gadchiroli at 43.4 degrees Celsius and Buldhana at 41.5 degrees Celsius," the official added. The RMC said that a heat wave was likely to occur in one or two pockets of Akola, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha and Yavatmal tomorrow. A heat wave was likely to occur on April 30 and May 1 in some areas of all the districts comprising Vidarbha.
People living in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh had some respite from the scorching heat as a severe thunderstorm accompanied by a squall brought down the day temperatures by a few notches. To examine the association between weather conditions and expressed sentiments, researchers from Vancouver School of Economics in Canada and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US gathered 2.4 billion posts from Facebook and 1.1 billion from Twitter between the years 2009 and 2016. They analysed the sentiment for each post using a special tool that categorises posts based on keywords as positive or negative. High wind accompanied by rain affected normal life as a nor'westers swept the city along with several other districts in south Bengal this evening.
