West Bengal on Friday reported 3,067 COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 20,65,360, the health department said in a bulletin on Friday. North 24 Parganas registered 693 infections followed by Kolkata at 653. Five more deaths due to the disease raised the toll to 21,265, the bulletin said. The number of active cases rose by 1,187 to 30,043 Altogether 20,14,052 people have recovered from the disease, 1,875 of them since Thursday. The positivity rate stood at 19.54 per cent. The state since Thursday tested 15,699 samples, the bulletin added.

Bengal plans to take renewable energy generation from 5% to 20% by 2030

West Bengal is aiming to take its renewable energy generation to 20 per cent of the total installed capacity by 2030, a senior official said on Friday. At present, the renewable energy share of the total installed capacity is 5 per cent, she said. "We have set the target of generating energy from renewable sources at 20 per cent by 2030," said Nandini Chakravorty, the principal secretary of the Non-conventional and Renewable Energy Sources Department. Speaking at a conclave organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), she said rooftop solar panels have been installed in 1,954 schools of the state and work was underway to add another 1,890 schools to the list. West Bengal reported 2,962 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday at a positivity rate of 17.36 per cent, as per the Health Department. Four more patients died, taking the toll to 21,243, it said. There are 23,264 active cases in the state at present, and all of these patients have symptoms. Of them, 508 patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals. The new cases were detected after testing 17,061 samples, recording a positivity rate of 17.36 per cent. So far, 20,07,204 patients have recovered, including 853 since Saturday.
