Youth beaten to death by relatives of minor girl in Rajasthan's Alwar

Alwar (Rajasthan), May 18 (ANI): A youth was beaten to death by relatives of a minor girl in Rajasthan's Alwar on Friday. Relatives alleged that the boy along with two of his friends had raped the girl on May 14. Police have detained two people in this regard. Further probe is underway.

5 dead, 30 injured in road accident in UP's Unnao

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), May 18 (ANI): While speaking to ANI, Additional Chief Electoral Officer sof Uttarakhand Dr V Shanmugam said that if an election agent/candidate wants VVPAT slips of a booth recounted, he can submit written request before RO. He said, "After votes in EVMs have been counted, slips from 5 randomly selected EVMs will be counted. In case there is a difference between the 2 tallies, they'll be cross-checked again and the stally of VVPAT slips will be considered as the final tally." He further said, "If an election agent/candidate wants VVPAT slips of a booth recounted, he can submit written request before RO. RO passes a speaking order. If he allows recounting, slips from particular VVPAT will be counted before all counting agents and results shown to them." >

Olympian rower Dattu Bhokanal booked after wife claims he harassed her physically and mentally

Nashik (Maharashtra), May 18 (ANI): Olympian and Asian Games medallist Dattu Baban Bhokanal has been booked for allegedly harassing his wife physically and mentally between December 22, 2017 and March 3 this year, a Nashik police official said Friday.Bhokanal's wife, who is a police constable with Nashik Rural police, had lodged a complaint on Thursday night following which a case was registered under sections 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, an official said.Police Inspector SY Bijli, Adgaon told ANI, Bhokanal a rower with the Army, is a resident of Talegaon in Chandvad tehsil of Nashik, he said."According to the complaint, he married the woman as per Hindu rituals and had promised her two times that he would marry her in a proper and public manner only to backtrack," the official said.He said the complaint was being probed and no arrest has been made so far.Bhokanal was the only rower to qualif

NASA selects SpaceX, Blue Origin, more to build next human lunar lander

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): After receiving an additional USD 1.6 billion funding for its space programs, NASA has announced that it has selected 11 private companies to work with for building the next human landers for its Moon program.On the official blog, NASA listed companies including Elon Musk's SpaceX, Amazon's Jeff Bezos-owned Blue Origin, and American aerospace giant SpaceX, among the partners which will help send American astronauts - the first woman and the next man, on the Moon's south pole by 2024 and build sustainable missions by 2028.This program, called Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP), will require participating companies to contribute at least 20 per cent of the total project cost. The total award amount for all companies is USD 45.5 million. >

Teen pregnancy in India strongly linked to child stunting: Study

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): Children born to teenage mothers in India are more likely to be stunted than those born to adult moms, according to the first comprehensive study to examine links between teen pregnancy and chid undernutrition in the country.India is home to more stunted children than any other country and is one of the ten countries with the largest burden of teenage pregnancy, said researchers at the US-based International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).Although marriage before the age of 18 years is illegal in India, the 2016 National Family and Health Survey (NFHS)-4 revealed that 27 per cent of girls are married before their 18th birthday and 31 per cent of married Indian women gave birth by the age of 18 years."Reducing adolescent pregnancy in India can hasten our progress towards achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to poverty, health, nutrition, general wellbeing, equity, and education," said IFPRI Research Fel

ISRO Chairman K Sivan inaugurates Young Scientist Programme
