Unfortunate that police just stood and watched: Jamia VC on firing incident

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in the national capital on January 30, the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University spoke on firing in the Jamia area. She said, "It is really unfortunate that during this entire time, a contingent of police stood there and just watched everything happen." "I am proud that my students handled the situation very calmly," Jamia VC added. A man brandished a country-made pistol and opened fire, injuring a student protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on January 30. The firing took place despite heavy police presence in the area and the man was later overpowered by protesters. The students were heading from Jamia to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat.

UP Police evacuates all 23 kids kept hostage in Farrukhabad, suspect shot down

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 31 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on January 31, the Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Home) of Uttar Pradesh spoke on children kept as hostage at a house in Farrukhabad on January 30. He said, "The person who was holding the children as hostage has been killed in an operation and all 23 children have been safely evacuated." "UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an award of Rs 10 lakhs for UP Police and its team that successfully carried out the operation. All personnel who took part in operation will be given certificate of appreciation," UP Additional Chief Secretary added. A man held 23 children as hostage at a house in UP's Farrukhabad. When police arrived for rescue, he opened fire and threw a hand grenade on them. The person had invited the children to his house, on his daughter's birthday.

Jamia firing: Happened in split of second, police couldn't react, says Special Commissioner

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Delhi Police's Special Commissioner Praveer Ranjan met the student who got injured in shootout outside Jamia Millia Islamia during anti-CAA protest on January 30. When asked if police was complacent in taking action against the man who shot outside Jamia, Ranjan said, "It happened in a split of second. By the time police could react, he had already fired. It happened so fast that police couldn't react. Police immediately overpowered the boy. The boy is being questioned. The case will be handled by crime branch now."

Tracing everything related to coronavirus patient: Kerala Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Jan 30 (ANI): Kerala Government is sharply monitoring first case of coronavirus in India, which was confirmed in the state of Kerala on January 30 as Minister KK Shailaja informed that CM Vijayan has given advice to take all necessary steps and to trace patient's movement and people who were in contact with infected earlier. "One positive case has been detected; the patient was from Wuhan University in China. We are currently trying to trace the contact of that person from which vehicle she used to travel at that time and family members too. CM has given us advice to take all the necessary measures," said KK Shailaja. Earlier today one positive case of coronavirus was found in Kerala.

Boy who opened fire during Jamia protest is being questioned: DCP Biswal

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): 19-year-old boy identified as Gopal Sharma opened fire during anti-CAA protest in Jamia Nagar on January 30. Culprit was apprehended and is being questioned, said East District (Delhi) DCP Chinmoy Biswal. A student named Shadab also received injuries after culprit opened fire. His condition is out of danger, informed DCP Biswal. "Student (Shadab Farooq) has sustained injuries in his left hand. He has been referred to trauma centre from hospital. Doctors say he is out of danger," said DCP while taking to ANI.

RBI imposes Rs 1 crore penalty on HDFC Bank

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs one crore on HDFC Bank for non-compliance of Know Your Customer (KYC) norms. "The penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of section 47 A (1) (c) read with section 46 (4) (i) of the Banking Regulation Act 1949, taking into account the failure of the bank to adhere to the aforesaid direction issued by RBI," said the central bank in a statement. It had made observations following an on-site inspection for supervisory evaluation of HDFC Bank for the financial year ended March 31, 2017. A scrutiny of 39 current accounts opened by its customers for bidding in initial public offer was conducted. The RBI said HDFC Bank failed to exercise ongoing due diligence in those accounts. New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Calling present government 'arrogant', Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad after attending all-party meeting, claimed that govt is least bothered about social issues including sinking economy, rising unemployment and only focused on getting bills passed. SC dismisses curative petition of Nirbhaya convict Akshay

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Supreme Court dismissed curative petition of Akshay Kumar Singh, one of the convicts in Nirbhaya gangrape case on January 30. Convicts' lawyer, AP Singh said, "The judges have dismissed the curative petition, I want to apologize for saying this but whether the five judges of the court or the President of this country are not God, who can never commit any mistake. Coronavirus outbreak: First positive case confirmed in Kerala

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): One positive case of Novel Coronavirus has been confirmed in Kerala. The student was studying at Wuhan University in China. The patient is stable and is being closely monitored. As many as 170 people have died so far, while over 1700 cases have been registered in China alone. Thermal scans have been places at international airports across India. Several suspected cases have emerged in parts of country. Coronavirus causes illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. A novel coronavirus is a new strain that had not been previously identified in humans.
