Delhi Police busts inter-state cricket betting racket

New Delhi, 22 January, (ANI): Crime Branch of Delhi Police busted a major inter-state cricket betting racket in Delhi. The gang was operating during the One Day International match between India and Australia in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Information was received by Crime Branch that a betting racket is being operated in Delhi. Accordingly, a team of Crime Branch was formed to bust the gang. Based on specific input, the police team raided a house in Ashoka Niketan, Karkardooma when the match was in progress. The team apprehended 11 persons red-handed at the spot. Arrested persons disclosed that bets worth more than Rs 5 crore had already been placed with them. 74 mobile phones, 7 laptops, 2 LCD TVs and 4 briefcases were recovered from the spot. Further investigation is in progress.

Watch: Scuffle breaks out between lawyers in MP's Satna

Satna (MP), Jan 22 (ANI): A scuffle broke out between two women including a lawyer and a male lawyer on Jan 22. Scuffle took place in Madhya Pradesh' Satna and whole incident was caught on camera. Speaking on the matter, a police official said, "The brawl occurred between 2 women, a notarized lawyer and a local. They had differences from past and on that, the scuffle broke out. Case registered further investigation underway."

Over 5 flights to Delhi airport diverted due to poor visibility

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): A dense layer of fog engulfed national capital on January 22. Delhi is recording a minimum temperature of 7 degree Celsius today. Due to fog and poor visibility over five flights to Delhi airport were diverted on Wednesday. According to airport official, one of the captains was not trained to land under CAT III (low visibility) conditions. Three flights from Riyadh, Kuwait and Bangkok are delayed and two flights from Kabul and Bahrain flights were diverted.

Students should understand Constitution: Maha Education Minister on mandatory assembly Preamble

Mumbai, Jan 22 (ANI): The Maharashtra has made it mandatory to read Preamble of Constitution in school during morning assemblies in the state. Speaking on that matter, Maharashtra School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad on Tuesday said, "The motive is to tell the children about the constitution, its principles and other laws laid down by it. If a child reads Preamble everyday and takes oath, he understands that he is a citizen of India. Similarly, he should understand the things laid down by the Constitution and learn those values." The rule will come into effect from January 26.

2 men thrashed during panchayat meeting for stealing potatoes in UP's Bulandshahr

Bulandshahr (UP), Jan 22 (ANI): Two men were thrashed during a panchayat meeting in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district. They were slapped after they allegedly stole potatoes from a farm of another villager. Locals hail from Baroda village of Bulandshahr district. The two victims belong to Scheduled Caste (SC). The incident took place on January 10. While speaking to ANI, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bulandshahr Santosh Kumar Singh said, "It was found that the village head had slapped both of them to settle the matter. Victims tell us that the complaint wasn't lodged by them but by a man who wants to become village head." "They say they have come to a settlement now and orders have been given to take action in this regard," SSP added. On the other side, the two locals said we didn't steal anything. Baroda village is located in Shikarpur block of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh.

Equity indices move up marginally led by rally in IT, Pharma stocks

New Delhi, Jan 22(ANI): Equity benchmark indices ticked up during early hours. BSE SandP sensex was up by 55 points to 41,379 Nifty 50 edged higher by 12 points at 12,182. Meanwhile Nifty IT climbed up by 1.3% and pharma by 1%. Among stocks, Infosys gained by 1.6% while HCL Technologies was up by 1% whereas, Zee Entertainment dropped by 3.4%, Coal India, ONGC, Power Grid Corporation and NTPC witnessed losses between 2.7 and 3.2%

Labourer's daughter bags first prize for singing at national level Kala Utsav

Udhampur (JandK), Jan 22 (ANI): Showcasing special talent a daughter of labourer from Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir bagged first prize in Solo Vocal Music Category at the National Level Kala Utsav Competition held in Bhopal. At the national competition, Khushi sang 'Himachali' folk song, which was highly appreciated by the audience and it also ensured her victory. The competition was organised by the Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in Bhopal. Seized narcotics worth Rs 4 crore destroyed in Tripura

West Tripura (Tripura), Jan 22 (ANI): Large quantity of seized narcotic substances and contraband were destroyed by authorities in West Tripura district on January 21. Seized narcotic substances were worth around Rs 4 crores which included marijuana, Yaba tablets, Spasmo Proxyvon including heroin and other substances. All these items were seized from eight districts of Tripura. Disposal of drugs is a frequent process in Tripura so that there is no outflow of drugs from the godowns.
