Delhi Police and students of Jamia University clashed on Dec 15. Jamia students protested against CAA which will give Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees who faced persecution in three neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Union Minister for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, held third pre-budget consultations with stakeholder groups from various fields including industry, service and trade on December 17. Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur, was also present in the meeting. The consultation meeting was held in connection with the forthcoming Union Budget 2020-21.
Patna (Bihar), Dec 17 (ANI): Posters depicting Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar being missing have been put up at multiple places across Patna. Kumar has been facing ire over his party's support to the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Parliament, and the same criticism has been fired at him in the posters in which he is being questioned for his silence over the new citizenship act and National Register of Citizens. Multiple posters have satirically asked people of Bihar to find the Chief Minister.
Chennai/ Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu), Dec 17 (ANI): Several workers and leaders of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) held protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Chennai on December 17. DMK leaders Kanimozhi and Dayanidhi Maran along with party leaders joined the protest. They protested at Collectorate in Chennai. On the other side, DMK President MK Stalin also held protest against CAA in Tamil Nadu's Kanchipuram. New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Speaking on recent protests against CAA and Jamia incident, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, said that political leaders are misleading students for their political benefits. In an interaction with ANI, Naqvi said, "People who have been defeated by 'jantantra' are finding support of 'gundatantra'. They don't believe in 'Satyamev Jayate' but are taking the support of 'Jhoothmev Jayate'. We have no problem with students and we can't question their commitment to the nation. There are political leaders who are misleading them for their political benefits and these are those people who have been defeated by 'jantantra'. They are trying to damage the democracy and it won't happen in any which way. I would request the students to understand the truth."
Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec 17 (ANI): Former Maharashtra chief minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, on December 17 said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has betrayed the farmers, as he alleged that the latter will not release Rs 23,000 crore which are required as compensation to farmers who faced the brunt of unseasonal rains. "CM had announced that they'll provide Rs 25,000/hectare to farmers suffering due to untimely rainfall. But yesterday when the supplementary demands came, they had allotted only Rs 750 crore. If they have to give Rs 25,000/hectare then they should have allotted Rs 23,000 crore. The manner in which this govt is being run, in its first stage itself, it has betrayed the farmers of Maharashtra," Fadnavis told media in Nagpur.

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): As per Pakistani Media, former Pakistani military dictator and former president Pervez Musharraf has been handed death sentence in high treason case on Dec 17. A three-member bench of the special court in Islamabad took the decision High treason trial of Musharraf for imposing the state of emergency on Nov 3, 2007, had been pending since Dec 2013. The high treason case was filed against Pervez Musharraf by the PML-N government in 2013.

He said, "I saw it myself and some protesters were carrying wet blankets and putting them on tear gas shells to minimize their impact." "It did not seem to be spontaneous but well planned. Investigation is underway in this matter," he added. "Petrol bombs were also hurled at us by the protesters. These things do not happen on the spot, it shows that it was a conspiracy," he further stated.
Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec 17 (ANI): While speaking to media in Nagpur on December 17, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that CM Uddhav Thackeray will decide if Maharashtra Citizenship (Amendment) Act will be implemented in the state or not. "Our Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) will decide on that in Cabinet meeting," said Raut.
Pendra (Chhattisgarh), Dec 17 (ANI): A burnt body of a 35-year-old woman was found at a farm in Chhattisgarh's Pendra district on December 16. The body was found in Gaurella police station limits in Pendra. While speaking to ANI, the police official said, "The woman was murdered and then her body was burnt by the perpetrator. Investigation is underway and post mortem report is awaited."

At 10:15 am, the BSE SandP Sensex was up by 283 points to 41,222 while the Nifty 50 gained by 76 points at 12,130. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the green with Nifty IT up by 1.3 per cent, metal by 1.2 per cent and auto by 0.7 per cent. Patna (Bihar), Dec 17 (ANI): Father of Muzaffarpur woman, who died on Monday night after she was set on fire while resisting rape attempt earlier this month, said he wants justice for her daughter, and that the police authorities should take appropriate action against the perpetrators. The victim, who was set on fire after a failed rape attempt earlier this month, had received 95 percent burn injuries, and was shifted to Apollo Barn Hospital in Patna. The 23-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Monday night.
