BJP's membership drive to end on July 11: Shivraj Chouhan

Gurugram (Haryana), July 06 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched massive membership drive from Varanasi today. While speaking on the same president of BJP Membership Committee and former chief minister of MP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he is happy that BJP's membership drive has started on Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee birth anniversary and the drive will continue till July 11. "I am happy that BJP's membership drive has started on Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee birth anniversary. PM started the drive in Varanasi a while ago, HM Amit Shah is in Telangana. Patna (Bihar), July 06 (ANI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appeared before court in Patna today in connection with a defamation case filed against him by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. Speaking to mediapersons, he said that the if, people stand against RSS and PM Modi, court cases are slapped against them, my fight is to safeguard the Constitution. "Whoever stands against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ideology is attacked, court cases are slapped. BJP ready to form govt in Karnataka: Sadananda Gowda after 11 Congress-JD(S) MLAs resign

Mysore (Karnataka), Jul 06 (ANI): After 11 MLAs from Congress and JD(S) submitted their resignations at the Karnataka Assembly Speaker office, Union Minister of Chemical and Fertilizers and senior BJP leader DV Sadananda Gowda said the BJP is ready to form government if the Congress-JD(S) coalition fails to provide required numbers, adding that party's Karnataka president BS Yeddyurappa will become the Chief Minister if a BJP government comes to power. "Governor is the supreme authority, as per the constitutional mandate if he calls us, certainly we are ready to form the government. We are the single largest party, we have got 105 people with us," Gowda told reporters in Mysore.

11 Congress-JD(S) MLAs resign from legislator post in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Jul 06 (ANI): Soon after arriving at the Karnataka Assembly Speaker office in Bengaluru, all the 11 visiting MLAs of ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition submitted their resignations as legislators. Three of the MLAs, including Ramalinga Reddy who beforehand had told media about his resignation, left the office with Congress strategist and state Irrigation Minister, DK Shivakumar. The resignations, however, have not been approved yet as Speaker Ramesh Kumar was not present in the office.

New Delhi, July 06 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to former Union Minister Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary on Saturday. BJP leaders Harsh Vardhan and Subramanian Swamy were also present at Central Hall, Parliament to pay tribute. Syama Prasad Mukherjee was founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh. Mukherjee served as Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet.

Agra (UP), July 06 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ramshankar Katheriya's guard thrashed toll plaza staff in Uttar Pradesh's Agra. The security personnel can be seen thrashing the employees before brandishing a gun and later firing in the air. Ramshankar Katheriya was also present at the spot when the incident took place. Congress-JD(S) coalition has been rejected: BJP's GVL on rebel MLAs meeting with Karnataka Speaker

New Delhi, Jul 06 (ANI): After 11 MLAs from the Congress and JD(S) knocked the door of Karnataka Assembly Speaker amid reports of growing discontent within the ruling coalition, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) national spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said the people of Karnataka have rejected the Congress-JD(S) coalition, adding that the BJP had won a massive mandate in Karnataka in the Lok Sabha elections despite the two parties contesting the polls together. "Congress-JD(S) coalition has been rejected by people of Karnataka. Despite their coalition in Lok Sabha polls, BJP won a massive mandate. It clearly shows the mood of people. MLAs certainly seem to be facing brunt of public anger against coalition," Narasimha told ANI.

People across the country angry with rising petrol prices

New Delhi/Bengaluru July 06 (ANI): Fuel prices were revised across the country on Saturday, a day after the announcement of additional excise duty and cess of Rs 1 per litre on petrol and diesel. While speaking to ANI, a local said in Delhi, "Inflation is increasing day by day and we are facing problems. Increasing in fuel prices will affect us. Meanwhile in Bengaluru, a local said, "We are not happy with Increasing in fuel prices and we are the common people and it will affect on middle class people most.""Middle class and lower class people will suffer most,"another local said. In Delhi, petrol is being sold Rs 2.45 higher at Rs 72.96 per litre and diesel at Rs 66.69 per litre after a Rs 2.36 hike. In Mumbai, petrol is being sold at Rs 78.57 while in Kolkata it is retailing at Rs 75.15, higher by over Rs 2 per litre. On Friday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced a hike in cess on auto fuel prices while presenting the Union Budget 2019-20 in Lok Sabha.

11 Congress, JD(S) MLAs meet Karnataka Speaker amid volatile political situation

Bengaluru, Jul 06 (ANI): Eight Congress MLAs and three JD(S) legislators met Karnataka Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar amid reports of political situation in the southern state becoming extremely volatile. Ramalinga Reddy, one of the eight Congress MLAs, told ANI that he will submit his resignation to the Karnataka speaker for being neglected on certain issues. Reddy, however, did not blame the Congress high command for his incoming resignation. Congress strategist in Karnataka and state Irrigation Minister, DK Shivakumar, who also arrived at the Assembly Speaker Office to meet the 11 MLAs, assured that none of the legislators will resign. Ever since the Congress-JD(S) coalition came to power in May 2018, political situation in Karnataka has remained volatile with both the ruling parties accusing Opposition BJP of trying to horse trade their MLAs.

Clash allegedly breaks out between TMC, BJP workers in WB, 2 injured

Bardhaman (WB), July 06 (ANI): At least two people got injured in a clash that allegedly broke out between All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters in West Bengal's Bardhaman.
