Rahul Gandhi to appear in court over defamation case by RSS

Mumbai, Jul 04 (ANI): A case was filed against Rahul Gandhi in 2017 by a RSS worker, Dhrutiman Joshi for allegedly linking journalist Gauri Lankesh's killing with the BJP-RSS ideology. Rahul Gandhi is likely to appear in court on Thursday morning regarding the same. Dhrutiman Joshi, a lawyer and RSS worker said, "Rahul Gandhi will appear before Mazgaon Court today in connection with a criminal defamation case that was filed against him in 2017 by me, for saying that journalist Gauri Lankesh was killed because she spoke against RSS." He added, "Summons were also issued in February. Since he was busy with elections then he was given exemption by court. I had also filed complaint against CPM leader Sitaram Yechury for similar statement and he will also be summoned tomorrow."

Fire breaks out on floors of building in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar

Hyderabad traffic police introduces digital signal, installs strip lights at zebra crossing

Hyderabad, July 04 (ANI): In a first of its kind, Hyderabad traffic police introduced a digital system to curb signal jumping. They have installed LED strip lights at the zebra crossing at KBR Park traffic signal junction. The new idea has been adopted on the experimental basis. It will help pedestrians to cross the road easily. If any commuter jumps the signal, CCTV cameras can record this violation easily.

Couple allegedly thrashed by family in UP's Bareilly

Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), July 03 (ANI): A woman and her husband were allegedly thrashed by her family in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. She was then abducted by her family, for marrying the man without their consent. The couple had fled the district after their marriage a year ago and had returned recently. They were later admitted to hospital for medical treatment. While speaking to ANI on this matter, Additional SP (Rural) of Bareilly, Sansar Singh said, "The woman was rescued and case was registered on the same day. Strict action will be taken against the accused. No arrests have been made yet."

PM Modi meets BJP worker who cycled from Gujarat's Amreli to celebrate BJP's victory

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): Khimchand Chandrani, a BJP worker, came to Delhi from Gujarat's Amreli on a bicycle today. He came to Delhi to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their electoral win in Lok Sabha elections. It took 17 days to cover the distance from bicycle. He is going to meet Home Minister Amit Shah tomorrow. While speaking to ANI, he said, "I had taken the resolution that if BJP gets over 300 seats I will come to Delhi on a bicycle to congratulate them. It took me 17 days to cover the distance. I talked to the Prime Minister, he told me 'you have a lot of courage.' I will meet Amit Shah day after tomorrow."

Farooq Abdullah congratulates Rahul Gandhi for abiding by decision to resign as Congress chief

New Delhi, Jul 03 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday congratulated Rahul Gandhi for standing firm on his ground to leave the Congress party's president post, and said the Gandhi scion will work towards rebuilding the party and could become Congress chief in future. "Congratulations to him that he stood by his decision. He is young; he can become president again in future. He had always wanted someone else in that position, I can't say that defeat did this. I think he'll now work towards building the party," the Kashmiri leader told ANI. Gandhi today in a statement announced that he is no longer the president of Congress, and urged the Congress Working Committee to convene a meeting at the earliest to decide on the next party chief. Gandhi also removed 'Congress President' from his Twitter bio, and also took responsibility for party's dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi, Jul 03 (ANI): After Rahul Gandhi finally quit as Congress president today, senior party leader Salman Khurshid said that the Gandhi scion won't cease to be "our leader", similarly like Sonia Gandhi is no more Congress president but she is still "our leader". "He left office of party president; he doesn't cease to be our leader. Sonia Gandhi isn't president anymore but she remains our leader. By way of natural standing they'll continue to have admiration, affection, confidence of party workers in them," Khurshid told ANI. Whereas Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) national spokesperson Nalin Kohli took a dig at Congress for being 'family driven', and said it is up to Rahul Gandhi to resign or continue, and that BJP has no role in internal affairs of Congress.

Bihar govt distributes mangoes in Assembly, faces flak from opposition

Patna (Bihar), Jul 03 (ANI): Bihar government on Wednesday distributed mangoes and mango saplings to state MLAs and MLCs. According to them, the move to plant more trees was taken to save the environment. However, in the backdrop of over 150 deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) outbreak in Muzaffarpur, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has criticised the move and said while children are dying, the state government is distributing mangoes. "The BJP people should eat those mangoes. While poor people are dying, they are thinking of mangoes. The central and state governments should feel ashamed," said RJD leader Rabri Devi. After the distribution of mangoes and mango saplings, state Industry Minister Shyam Rajak said, "The environment is in danger these days. Mango saplings are a way to ask people to plant more trees so that the problem can be solved."

Bodies of 7 climbers killed in Nanda Devi avalanche airlifted by ITBP

Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Jul 03 (ANI): Bodies of seven climbers, who were killed after being hit by an avalanche near Nanda Devi in May this year, have been airlifted by Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to Pithoragarh and have been handed over to District Administration in Uttarakhand. Eight mountaineers - four from Britain, two from United States, and one each from Australia and India went missing on May 31, after the climbers failed to return to their base camp. Body of one climber has not been found.
