COVID-19: Clash erupts between two groups in MP's Bhind, 1 dead

Bhind (Madhya Pradesh), May 16 (ANI): A clash erupted between two groups in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind amid coronavirus pandemic on May 15. The clash occurred over scanning of a man who returned from a hotspot zone of Delhi. One person has been declared dead and atleast two people got injured during clash. One critically injured has been referred to a hospital in Gwalior for medical treatment. The incident took place in Prem Nagar area of Bhind. More details are awaited and probe is underway in this regard. There are total 4426 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 51,401 with 2649 deaths in India.

Amritsar (Punjab), May 16 (ANI): A 'Shramik special train' carrying around 980 passengers departed from Punjab's Amritsar on May 15 amid coronavirus lockdown. The passengers will reach West Bengal's Howrah on May 16. The passengers were screened before they boarded the train. There are total 1935 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Punjab. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 51,401 with 2649 deaths in India.

COVID-19: Leh District Administration evacuates stranded people amid lockdown 3.0

Leh (Ladakh), May 16 (ANI): Amidst nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, the district administration of Leh has evacuated stranded people. They evacuated students, pilgrims from different parts on May 15. All the passengers were screened at Khaltsi screening point. Circles are also being made to ensure social distancing norms being followed among all the passengers. All the vehicles were also sanitised keeping in mind the hygiene factor. There are total 43 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ladakh. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 51,401 with 2649 deaths in India.

Former K'taka minister booked for lockdown violation, calls it politically motivated

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), May 16 (ANI): Former Karnataka minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil and 22 others have been charged under section 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for violating section 144 of CrPC by conducting a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13. While speaking to ANI in Karnataka's Kalaburagi on May 15, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil said, "It is politically motivated, officer who filed case was forced by MLA. As elected representatives, we are going in our constituencies, listening to people as they are apprehensive about return of migrants." "We had not conducted any meeting," he added.

Facebook group video chat 'Messenger Rooms' is now available globally

New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): Facebook has now rolled out its group video chat 'Messenger Rooms' globally. It allows free video calls with up to 50 people with no time limit. The product is a more feature-rich and the rooms can be made either through the main Facebook app or through the dedicated Messenger one. The new feature allows one to set limits on who can join or can make it public to anyone with the link even if they don't have a Facebook account. "You can start and share rooms on Facebook through News Feed, Groups and Events, so it's easy for you to drop by whenever you want," The Verge quoted Stan Chudnovsky, Facebook's vice president of Messenger, as saying.

Simpler methods of saliva test being employed for coronavirus testing

New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): Several simpler methods apart from nasopharyngeal swab technique are being used to conduct coronavirus testing that may help flatten the transmission curve in order to prevent a sharp spike in cases. One such test is at-Home COVID-19 Saliva Test which is simpler as well as for those who may not be able to go to one of the drive-up testing sites. While the conventional testing procedure follows the procedure of nasopharyngeal swabs, the new test developed by Andrew Brooks requires the suspect to only spit inside a cup. Unlike the conventional testing procedures, the saliva tests can be performed by people at home and sent them to Rutgers clinical genomics laboratory via mail. The results of the test can be ascertained within 48 hours.

'Happy to come back to my place': Passenger after reaching Bhubaneswar via special train

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), May 16 (ANI): A special train carrying passengers from Delhi has reached Bhubaneswar Railway Station amid coronavirus pandemic. The train carrying 670 passengers came to Bhubaneswar on May 15. The passengers were screened and stamped for home quarantine, with indelible ink, after reaching at the railway station. Indian Railways has resumed services of special air-conditioned trains from May 12 amid lockdown 3.0. While speaking to ANI, one of the passengers said, "I am very happy to come back to my own place. The arrangement is very good at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station." There are total 611 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Odisha. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 51,401 with 2649 deaths in India.

Jharkhand CM demands airplanes from centre to expedite return of migrant labourers

Ranchi (Jharkhand), May 15 (ANI): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on May 15 said he has asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to permit airplanes to bring back state's migrant labourers amid coronavirus lockdown. Meanwhile, Soren also visited the construction site of Urban Planning Institute to inspect the development process.

125 arrested over violent clashes in WB's Telinipara: Hooghly DCP

Hooghly (West Bengal), May 15 (ANI): While speaking to media persons, Subrata Gangopadhyay, DCP Headquarters, Chandannagar, Hooghly on Telinipara incident said, "Situation in Telinipara now under control. We have arrested 125 people and recovered bombs in good numbers. Investigation is underway. A woman has also been arrested for posting objectionable video on social media." Earlier, clashes had erupted in Telinipara after members of a community were allegedly taunted as "corona" by some people belonging to another group.

Pregnant migrant labourer delivers child in SDM's car amid lockdown

Barwani (Madhya Pradesh), May 15 (ANI): A pregnant migrant labourer delivered a baby boy in Barwani SDM's car on May 14. She started experiencing labour pain when doctors came to screen workers who came from Gujarat. One of the doctors said, "We had gone to screen workers came from Gujarat when a woman started experiencing labour pain. We were just on hospital gate, when she delivered the baby in car. Both mother and child are healthy."

DMRC ready to run metro, centre to take final call: Delhi Transport Minister

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Transport Minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot, on May 15 said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is ready to run the metro but final decision will be taken by the central government. While speaking to ANI, he said, "The decision will be of the Centre, while DMRC is ready to run the metro. On every station, there will be thermal checking, proper sanitisation and usage of currency will not be encouraged. If there will be congestion at some stations, the entry of people will be stopped. Only main stations will be opened so that we can put our complete manpower there."

Govt announces Rs 20,000 crore scheme for development of marine, inland fisheries
