Varanasi (UP), Sep 20 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed flood situation in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on September 20. Relief materials were also distributed to the affected. NDRF, SDRF and flood unit are carrying out relief and rescue operations. River Ganga had swelled due to heavy rains in the region and water entered into villages across several districts of the state. Even the busy roads have been submerged.

Jadavpur University violence: SFI protests in solidarity with university

Kolkata (West Bengal), Sep 20 (ANI): Minister of State (MoS) of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo was heckled, slapped and detained for hours by protesting students at Kolkata's Jadavpur University on September 19. He had gone to the university to address a seminar which was organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The Students Federation of India (SFI) protested in solidarity with Jadavpur University on September 20. He met with resistance by protesting students of left outfit who showed him black flags and indulged in sloganeering. The situation escalated to such an extent that West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar had to come to Babul Supriyo's rescue but even his car was not allowed to leave the university campus.

BJP takes out protest march in Kolkata over attack on Babul Supriyo

Kolkata, Sep 20 (ANI): BJP leaders and workers took out a protest rally in Kolkata on September 20. The protest comes after Union Minister Babul Supriyo was heckled in Jadavpur University on September 19. The high drama started when Babul Supriyo reached the central university to attend an event organised by the ABVP. However, when he entered the university, he was encountered with students who were allegedly protesting against the ABVP on the campus. While speaking to ANI, BJP state vice president, Jay Prakash Majumdar, said, "TMC, SFI and Naxals they are destroying culture of Jadavpur University and over all West Bengal. There is no law in the state."

PM Modi, Mongolian President unveil Lord Buddha statue in Mongolia via video-conferencing in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga jointly unveiled Lord Buddha statue on September 20. They unveiled the statue via video-conferencing in Delhi. The statue is built at Gandan Monastery in Mongolia. Earlier, President of Mongolia met PM Narendra Modi in the national capital. He arrived in Delhi on September 19 for a five-day visit. He is accompanied by a high-level business delegation. Battulga will also participate in an India-Mongolia Business Forum in New Delhi.

New effective corporate tax rate shall be 25.17 percent: FM Sitharaman

Panaji (Goa), Sep 20 (ANI): While addressing a press conference Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to slash the corporate tax rate for domestic companies. "To promote growth, a new provision has been inserted in the income tax act with effect from fiscal year 2019-20, which allows any domestic company to pay income tax at the rate of 22% subject to condition they will not avail any incentive or exemptions. The effective tax rate for these companies shall be 25.17 % inclusive of all surcharge and cess."

Azad Singh removed from district president post: Manoj Tiwari after BJP leader seen slapping wife

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): BJP's Mehrauli state district president Azad Singh, who was seen slapping his wife in a viral video, has been removed from his post, informed Manoj Tiwari, president, Delhi BJP. "There can be no compromise with the dignity of a woman. We have formed a probe committee and the person has been removed from district president post," Tiwari told ANI. The video has gone viral on social media. Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has ordered a panel to probe the incident.

Water-logging at several places as Mumbai breaks 65-year record for September rains

Flooded roads were seen near near Gandhi Market in Mumbai on September 20. Incessant rain hit normal life out of order. Vehicles were wading through the flooded roads. BJP's Swami Chinmayanand arrested in connection with rape of UP Law student

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 20 (ANI): BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand has been arrested in connection with rape of a 23-year-old Uttar Pradesh law student. The development has come after the woman, who studies in a UP law college run by Swami Chinmayanand, had recorded her statement at the court of the judicial magistrate on Monday (September 16), accusing the BJP leader of raping her. The law student had gone missing on August 24 after a video of her alleging that a person from 'Sant Samaj' had threatened to kill her and her parents went viral on social media. The woman was produced before the top court on August 30 after she was found in Rajasthan. The SIT in this regard was formed on the directions of the Supreme Court in the first week of September to investigate the case.

Tulsi Gabbard welcomes PM Modi to US, says 'sorry' for not being able to attend 'Howdy Modi' event

Gabbard, a member of the Democratic Party of the United States clarified that she won't be able to present at the event due to prior commitments related to her scheduled presidential campaigns. "Namaste! I would like to extend a warm welcome to Prime Minister Modi on his latest visit to the US and I am sorry that I will not be able to join there in person due to previously scheduled presidential campaign events. Water bodies get polluted after immersion of idols in Karnataka's Hubli

Hubli (Karnataka), Sep 20 (ANI): As Ganesha Chaturthi festivial concluded last weekend, rivers, lakes and other water bodies once again became more polluted following immersion of idols worshipped in pandals across the nation. However, some people had raised the issue, Karnataka's Hubli residents demanded to clean a well that has been polluted due to Lord Ganesha statue immersion. Traditionally, the idols were made of mud and painted with natural colours. But now many are made using plaster of Paris (PoP) and coated with harmful paints containing heavy metals, all of which end up in the rivers and other water bodies. Central Pollution Control Board guidelines and court directions are yet to achieve the desired result of keeping rivers and lakes free of pollutants like heavy metals and PoP used in idols.

India would like world community to act in unison against terrorism: Syed Akbaruddin

New York (US), Sep 20 (ANI): India's Permanent Representative to United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin said that India would like to the International community to act in unison to address the issue of terrorism. He said, "Prime Minister Modi has made a call for an international conference to counter terrorism. He (PM Modi) will of course make that pitch. Terrorism will always be a theme in India's external orientation because our people have suffered enough and we would like the international community to act in unison to address this issue." On being asked by a reporter about the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump on the sidelines of UNGA session, Akbaruddin said, "I understand, President Trump is in New York between 23 and 25. Ludhiana doctors remove huge hairball from teen's stomach

Ludhiana (Punjab), Sep 20 (ANI): A 19-year-old girl underwent surgery for the removal of a huge hairball measuring 22 cm by 8 cm in size from her stomach at Mahavira Civil Hospital here on Wednesday. The teenage girl suffers from a rare psychiatric disorder, which causes her to eat her own hair. Dr Milan Verma, one of the surgeons, who performed trichobezoar surgery on the girl, told ANI that along with her hair she also ate mud, chalk and sand because of the psychological disorder. The doctor said that the operation was challenging because the girl was suffering from ulcers, was underweight and malnourished. The teenage girl is now recovering from her surgery but it is still unclear whether she will have psychiatric support.

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Apple has only recently launched its new iPhone 11 lineup and the first reports of dissection are already here. By tradition, Apple does not reveal the battery capacity of its iPhones. However, an early teardown of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, posted on Weibo, reveals that the phone is fitted with 15.04 Watt 3.79V, which calculates to roughly 3,968mAh, Mashable reports. The capacity is significantly higher compared to predecessor iPhone XS Max which has a 3,174mAh battery.

Man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in Delhi's Anand Parbat area

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): A man allegedly murdered his wife in Delhi's Anand Parbat area. He stabbed her with a knife. The couple used to live in a rented house and had a 3-year-old daughter as well. Police reached at the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
