Temporary tents arranged for people living near banks of Yamuna in Delhi: CM Kejriwal

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal confirmed that water-level in Yamuna river reached at 206.6 meters now, there is no loss of life. Temporary tents have been arranged for stay. Once water recedes sufficiently people can go back to their houses.

3 Air Force personnel die after defence truck fell in gorge in Rajasthan's Barmer

Barmer (Rajasthan), Aug 21 (ANI): At least 3 Air Force personnel lost their lives after a defence truck rolled down a hill in Chauhtan town of Rajasthan's Barmer district on August 21. 3 other Air force personnel were seriously injured. They were taken to the hospital. Further investigation is underway.

Nearly all tourists evacuated from Spiti: HP Minister

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Aug 21 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister RL Markanda said that Lahaul-Spiti has received more than average rainfall in past 4-5 days. He said, "Lahaul-Spiti has received heavy rainfall in last few days. A lot of people were stuck in Spiti due to heavy rainfall. Nearly all tourists have been evacuated from Spiti." He further added, "Malayalam film crew that was stuck in Chhatru said about today that they will leave in morning." RL Markanda was also stuck in Kaza for 3 days due to heavy rainfall before being airlifted to Shimla on August 20.

Several residential areas in Varanasi under water as Ganga swells

Varanasi (UP), Aug 21 (ANI): As water level in Ganga increased, several parts of Varanasi were submerged under water. Locals were seen suffering due to floods. Houses near ghats have been damaged. Life has come to standstill in affected areas. "We are moving to safe areas as water has entered our house," said a local.

3 die after helicopter carrying flood relief material crashes in Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand), Aug 21 (ANI): Three people died who were on-board a helicopter that was carrying relief material to flood-affected areas, after it crashed in Uttarkashi on August 21. The helicopter was going from Mori to Moldi, in Uttarkashi district. While speaking to ANI, Uttarakhand CM, Trivendra Singh Rawat announced a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for person's next of kin of those who lost their lives in crash.

People of Zambia grateful for India's support: President Edgar Lungu

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): Zambian President Edgar Lungu is on a three-day visit to India. He came to Delhi on August 21. India and Zambia has also exchanged six Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) in presence of PM Modi and President Lungu. While speaking during the ceremony, Zambian President Edgar Lungu said, "People of Zambia are truly grateful for continuous support received by India over the years. My visit here has started bearing fruits that we have witnessed the signing of agreements in fields of defence, education, medicine, art and culture, elections as well as between our 2 diplomatic training institutes. We would like to explore new areas through this bilateral cooperation. Private investment in Zambia by Indian companies currently has touched 5 billion US dollar."

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): The busts of Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Savarkar were installed outside Delhi University's Faculty of Arts. "There is a cellar on campus, where Bhagat Singh was kept during trial and it was not made public, so we have decided to erect the pillar as they have made great contributions in freedom struggle. Youth should take inspiration from them," said Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president and ABVP leader Shakti Singh.

23 ministers take oath in first Cabinet reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh

Ward councilor alleges Municipal Council Mayor's son of eve-teasing in Bihar

Patna (Bihar), Aug 21 (ANI): Woman ward councilor of Bihar on Wednesday alleged that the son of Municipal Council Mayor eve-teased her during a board meeting of Patna Municipal Corporation. The son of the Municipal Council Mayor has been identified as Shishir Kumar. Narrating the ordeal, Devi told ANI, "During a board meeting of the council, son of the mayor smiled and winked at me. I ignored him once, but when he did the same again, I warned him of telling his mother to which he responded 'go-ahead'. When I complained to the Municipal Council, she accused me of trying to seek attention. I urge CM Nitish Kumar to look into the matter, so that such kind of incident doesn't repeat." Devi also said that if this continues, she will reach out to the Women Commission or court.

MP govt asks school to take back expelled girls after they write to CM alleging racial slurs

Dhar (MP), Aug 21 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh government has asked a private school to re-admit the two girls, who had claimed the institution has expelled them as they hailed from Nepal. However, the school claimed that girls were expelled due to misbehavior of guardian with a school teacher. The two girls also wrote a letter to Prime Minister's Office and Chief Minister Kamal Nath in which they claimed that they were teased in school by being called 'Nepali'.

3 Cheetah helicopters carry essential items to flood-affected areas in Punjab

Jalandhar (Punjab), Aug 21 (ANI): Three Cheetah Helicopters carried 36000 parathas and 18000 litres of water to 18 flood-affected villages of Shahkot in Jalandhar district of Punjab on August 21. Several villages in Punjab's Jalandhar are flooded due to incessant rains. Train services were also affected following flood-like situation in several areas.

Yamuna River continues to swell post water release from Haryana's Hathni Kund barrage

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): River Yamuna continued to swell in Delhi. Water level in Yamuna River crossed 'danger mark' on Aug 20 morning. Old Loha Pul closed for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. Water level of Yamuna River rose as the water was released from Haryana's Hathni Kund barrage. Water level at Old Yamuna Bridge (Loha Pul) has reached 206.60 meter. As per Upper Yamuna Division, Central Water Commission the water level is expected to reach the peak value of 207.08 meter between 1 to 5 pm on August 21. The Delhi government has set up 2120 tents for 23860 people, who are expected to be affected due to the excess water resulting in Yamuna's overflow.

INX Media scam: CBI team seen at P Chidambaram's residence

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team was seen at the residence of former finance minister P Chidambaram in connection to INX Media scam on August 21. They had put up a notice outside P Chidambaram's residence to appear before them today within 2 hours on August 20 night. On Tuesday, Delhi High Court had dismissed his anticipatory bail pleas in connection with the corruption and the money laundering cases related to INX Media case. Chidambaram's legal team will approach the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court on Wednesday to seek a stay on High Court order.
