Maharashtra floods: NH 4 re-opens for vehicular movement in Kolhapur

Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Aug 12 (ANI): The flood situation in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra remained critical. The flood-affected National Highway (NH) 4 re-opened for heavy vehicles and Sport utility vehicle (SUV) at Kolhapur-Sangli Phata on August 12. Earlier, the truck drivers were stuck on road in Maharashtra's Karad for many days due to flood situation in Kolhapur. Around 1,000-2,000 trucks were stuck on the National Highway. The incessant rains have damaged several properties in Kolhapur. Teams from Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Coast Guard along with the local authorities are still continuing extensive relief efforts in the affected areas. Relief and rescue operations are underway.

Eid-ul-Adha: People throng at mosques to offer 'namaz' in Srinagar amid tight security

Srinagar (JandK), Aug 12 (ANI): More than hundreds of people offered 'namaz' in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar in the morning at Mohalla mosques on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha on August 12. Despite curfew, people are coming out of their houses to offer prayers and to celebrate the festival. Leverage has been given in curfew for the festival. Jammu and Kashmir police officials greeted people outside mosque. People across the nation are celebrating the festival with great zeal.

1 dead, several injured in stampede at Ashokdham Temple in Bihar

Lakhisarai (Bihar), Aug 12 (ANI): At least one person died, while several were injured in stampede due to overcrowding at Ashokdham Temple on August 12. The temple is located in Lakhisarai district of Bihar. Police and medical teams rushed to the spot. Further investigation is underway. More details are awaited.

Manipur hosts State-level Judo Championship 2019

Imphal (Manipur), Aug 12 (ANI): Manipur Judo Championship organised State-level Sub- Junior and Cadet Judo Championship. It was a two-day event and was organised at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex. It will also serve as trial selection for National Sub-Junior and Cadet Judo Championship that will also held in Manipur. Around 154 participants including 82 boys participated from all over the state in the championship. It also provided opportunities to budding Judokas to showcase their talent.

Manipur hosts 2nd State Level Invitation Gymnastics Championship 2019

Imphal (Manipur), Aug 12 (ANI): Manipur Gymnastics Association organised 2nd State Level Invitation Gymnastics Championship 2019 in Imphal. It was a two-day event. The aim of the championship was to encourage young aspiring gymnasts. The event saw participation of various neighboring state, including Assam and a total 66 young gymnasts showed their active participation. The championship was organised with motive to develop interest among youth towards gymnastics in Manipur at par with the National and International standard.

Sehore (MP), Aug 12 (ANI): Asserting that saving Kashmir is their prime focus, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to act "thoughtfully" or else "Kashmir will slip out of our hands". Referring to an International media report, Singh said, "See what is happening in Kashmir. They've (Government) burnt their hands in fire, saving Kashmir is our primary focus. Karnataka flood aftermath: Several houses destroyed in Shivamogga

Shivamogga (Karnataka), Aug 12 (ANI): In the wake of incessant rains and overflowing of Tunga River in the state, hundreds of houses were damaged at Rajiv Gandhi Extension and Vidyanagar areas of Karnataka's Shivamogga district. While speaking to ANI, a local said, "No leader has come to see us, neither the CM nor anyone from the Opposition. Though we're getting food, there is no water. Houses are damaged." Around 1,024 villages in 80 talukas of 17 districts have been affected due to the floods caused by incessant rains in the state. 20 National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams, 10 Army teams, five Navy teams and two State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are engaged in rescue operations in the state.

People were seen offering 'namaz' at Delhi's Jama Masjid on August 12. People celebrated Eid-ul-Adha with great zest and zeal in various parts of the country. On this auspicious occasion, Muslims offer prayers at the mosque, sacrifice goats, wear new clothes and greet each other. Later, the Muslim families feast on the goat's meat and also distribute it to the poor and needy people. Eid-al-Adha feast dishes include mutton biryani, mutton keema and bhuni kaleji. Among the desserts there are sheer kurma and kheer.

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 12 (ANI): Devotees offered prayers at Lord Shiva temples in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur on the last Monday of 'sawan' month on August 12. Pilgrims were seen offering milk, belpatra, water and ghee to Lord Shiva. Devotees also offered special puja, jal abhishek on the auspicious occasion of 'sawan'. Mentally unstable father held for killing 6-year-old son in UP's Agra

Agra (UP), Aug 12 (ANI): A mentally unstable father allegedly killed his 6-year-old son in Uttar Pradesh's Agra on Saturday morning. The incident occurred when the father was going to drop the child off at school. The relatives alleged that the accused used to indulge in occultist activities. Adequate stock of food, essential items available in Kashmir: Divisional Commissioner

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Aug 11 (ANI): Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Baseer Khan asserted that adequate stocks of food and essential commodities are available in the Valley. He said, "In last 3-4 days we had made some commitments that we will ensure that adequate stocks of food and essential commodities will be available all around in the Valley and that commitment has been fulfilled." He further added, "All ration outlets in the valley were open and people were purchasing rations from different locations. Today and yesterday in many areas restrictions were lifted and people were allowed to move and make purchases for Eid which falls tomorrow."
