COVID-19 lockdown: Bandra-Worli Sea Link remains deserted

Mumbai, Apr 12 (ANI): Low vehicular movement was seen at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai on April 12 amid nation-wide coronavirus lockdown. Maharashtra continues to be on top in most number of COVID-19 cases (1761). Security personnel have been deployed in Mumbai's densely populated Dharavi to ensure lockdown. Dharavi has recorded a total of 28 corornavirus positive cases and 4 deaths so far. Door-to-door testing has also begun in the area.

Dairy farmers facing losses amid lockdown in Maharashtra's Nashik

Nashik (Maharashtra), Apr 09 (ANI): The dairy farmers in Maharashtra's Nashik are facing losses due to the lockdown. Nationwide lockdown has been imposed in backdrop of COVID-19 outbreak. Milk price dipped to almost half amid pandemic and farmers are forced to sell the milk at low prices. While speaking to ANI, one of the farmers said, "We used to sell milk at Rs 50-55 per kg, now we have to sell it at Rs 30-35 per kg. The demand is low as hotels and tea stalls are closed. It is becoming difficult to manage expenses." There are total 1574 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra including 110 deaths and 188 have been cured.

COVID-19: Muzaffarpur prison gets disinfection tunnel

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Apr 12 (ANI): A disinfection tunnel has been installed at Khudiram Bose Central Jail for police personnel in Bihar's Muzaffarpur amid coronavirus threat. Disinfection tunnel disinfects by spraying people with small percentage of Sodium hypochlorite solution through nozzles. There are total 60 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Bihar including 1 death.

Children in Ambala empty piggy bank to contribute in PM-CARES fund

Ambala (Haryana), Apr 12 (ANI): Contributing their bit to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi in fight against coronavirus, a 6-year-old and a 5-year-old donated their piggy bank to PM-CARES fund. "I saved this money to buy spider man but then virus situation occurred in India, and I thought to help by donating the money I have saved in my piggy bank," said 5-year-old. "My kids also wanted to help in India's battle with coronavirus, they decided to donate the money they have collected so far," informed their mother, Rita.

Churches in Mumbai remain shut on Easter

Mumbai, Apr 12 (ANI): Churches in Mumbai remained closed on Easter Sunday due to suspension of mass gatherings after COVID-19 spread. 'Basilica of Our Lady of The Mount' in Bandra wore a deserted look. St Michael's Church in Mahim also remained shut in view of the situation. Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion on Good Friday. It also marks the culmination of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and penance.

Gurugram hotspots wear deserted look amid sealing

Gurugram (Haryana), Apr 12 (ANI): Housing Board Colony and Devilal Nagar wore a deserted look in Haryana's Gurugram on April 12 amid coronavirus lockdown. Nine areas in Gurugram have been declared containment zones for all the purposes and objectives as prescribed in the protocol to combat COVID-19. Areas were sealed to prevent spread in the adjoining areas. Nationwide lockdown has been imposed in backdrop of COVID-19 outbreak. There are total 177 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Haryana including three deaths and 29 cured. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 7367 in India and 273 deaths.

Drive-through COVID-19 testing facility launched in Gurugram

Gurugram (Haryana), Apr 12 (ANI): A drive-through sample collection centre has been set up in Haryana's Gurugram to ease COVID-19 tests. This initiative was started by Healthians lab on April 11 along with Municipal Corporation of Gurugram. Any person can apply for COVID-19 test by filling their details online. The facility has been established in collaboration with the Healthians testing group at Tau Devi Lal Stadium. While speaking to ANI, the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Vinay Pratap Singh said, "One can apply for the test by filling details online. The patient can drive on own or can be accompanied by another person." "It takes about 1-2 minute to collect nasal or throat swab and the reports will be given online. It is compulsory for those who want to be tested for COVID-19 to obtain a prescription from a registered medical practitioner," he added. COVID-19: Delhiites violate 'social distancing' norm at Azadpur Mandi

New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): Massive crowd was seen at a vegetable market in Delhi on April 12 amid nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. Delhiites were seen violating norms of social distancing while purchasing vegetables. On April 11, District Magistrate North directed DCP North West and Secretary APMC took all necessary measures to ensure social distancing protocol is followed at Azadpur Mandi and took strict action against those violating norms. There are total 903 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Delhi including 14 deaths. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases surpassed 7,000 in India with over 240 deaths.

'Donation on Wheels' ensures no one sleeps empty stomach in Raipur

Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Apr 12(ANI):Chhattisgarh Government and Raipur Municipal Corporation provided food to the needy through 'Donation on Wheels' scheme. The aim of this scheme is to ensure that no one sleeps empty stomach in the city. Through 'Donation on Wheels', Chhattisgarh government and Raipur Municipal Corporation collected raw food from people who are capable enough to donate. "We had not expected that people of Raipur will donate this much. People who are not able to provide raw food packets due to any reason, we have asked them to donate value of one packet, i.e, Rs. 350. We will purchase ration of that amount and give them the bill," said CEO of Zila Panchayat, Gaurav Singh. On April 11, Bal Gopal Hospital of Raipur donated 200 packets of raw food in 'Donation on Wheels.' The Hospital provides free food.

Amid lockdown, activities in Tripura's tea gardens resume

Durgabari (West Tripura district), Apr 12 (ANI): Activities in tea gardens resumed during lockdown in Tripura but with half workforce than usual. This has given some respite to tea estates, which were predicting huge losses. Due to the lockdown, the gardens missed the first plucking of the season and the leaves got wasted. The government has given permission to the tea estates to allow controlled activities and manage with half the strength of workers amid maintaining all precautions, right from using masks, social distancing to washing hands on regular intervals. This has given relief to some extend to both the owners as well as the tea workers, who are generally paid on daily basis. In addition to this, they will also be provided with some ration by the authority at a subsidized rate.

Consuming Vitamin D rich food may have heart-protective effects: Study

New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): Intake of food rich in Vitamin D may show good results with heart-related problems, suggests recent research. The research was published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. The study was conducted during 2001-2012 and included 1,514 men and 1,528 women from the greater Athens area, in Greece. In the lowest, middle, and highest categories of vitamin D intake, cardiovascular events (such as heart attacks and strokes) occurred in 24%, 17%, and 12% of men and 14%, 10%, and 11% of women. In contrast with vitamin D supplementation trials that have shown modest to neutral beneficial effects on heart health, this study revealed that increased vitamin D intake from food sources may protect against heart-related problems, especially in men.

After COVID-19 patient's death, 50 health workers sent for quarantine

Bokaro (Jharkhand), Apr 12(ANI): Total 50 health workers including doctors from Bokaro General Hospital were quarantined after they came in contact with a COVID-19 patient. The COVID-19 patient died during the treatment. Bokaro's Deputy DC Ravi Ranjan Mishra said that the ICU at the hospital will be disinfected and fumigated.

COVID-19: Women constables sew masks for needy at Delhi police station

New Delhi, Apr 12(ANI): Where the whole world is trying to fight with COVID-19 virus, Delhi police women constables are sewing masks and sanitizers at Greater Kailash police station for the poor people who are not capable of buying it. The initiate started with a team of 3 women constables, who brought their sewing machines after they received a call from unknown people for not wearing masks. Speaking to ANI, Sunni, one of the three women said that it feels very good when you help people who are in need. "I use these masks myself too, you can wash them and sanitize every day, poor people cannot spend money in purchasing masks every day," she added. One of the attackers of doctors in Indore tested positive for COVID-19: Jabalpur Collector

Jabalpur (MP), Apr 11 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Jabalpur District Collector Bharat Yadav on April11 informed about the one of the accused, who attacked the health workers in Indore during checkup. He said that one of the person, who were transferred to Jabalpur Central Jail from Indore has been tested positive for COVID-19 and in quarantined. "1 person out of 4 men who were transferred to Jabalpur Central Jail from Indore has tested positive for COVID-19. They were arrested under National Security Act. Patient hospitalised, rest three kept in isolation inside jail," said Yadav.

COVID-19 adversely hits jute industry, association appeals govt for reopening mills

North Parganas (WB), Kolkata (WB), Apr 11 (ANI): Jute industry is worst affected by nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus. All the mills across the country are closed. About 95 percent of jute manufacturing took place in West Bengal, which is severely impaired these days. Major part of jute production goes into crop and grain packaging. Chairman of Indian Jute Mills Association, Raghavendra Gupta said, "We have written letter to state government regarding the issues, however there is no order of reopening of jute mills yet." Meanwhile, shortage of labours has also a major point of concern amid the lockdown situation.
