Kolkata, Dec 20 (ANI): Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on December 20 defended her 'UN referendum on CAA' statement by saying that she only mentioned an "opinion poll", and that she had called Human Rights Commission and United Nations "impartial institutions". "I mentioned only opinion poll. I said Human Rights Commission and UN are impartial institutions," she told reporters in Kolkata after her demand for referendum on CAA and NRC received backlash from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was awarded life imprisonment by Delhi's Tis Hazari Court in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The court ordered Kuldeep Sengar to pay a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh to the victim. The Court also directed CBI to assess threat perception and offer the necessary protection to the victim and her family.

He has reached West Bengal's Siliguri and is now headed to his last destination Osaka in Japan. Inayat Hussein started his journey from London 163 days ago with an aim to promote adventure sports. His bicycle is equipped with a tent, tool kit, first aid box, a small stove, rain cover, and utensils.
New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Delhi Police PRO, MS Randhawa on December 20 informed that Section 144 is not imposed in walled city Jama Masjid where protestors have gathered to demonstrate against the new Citizenship Act. While speaking to ANI, Delhi Police PRO, MS Randhawa said, "Section 144 is not imposed in walled city Jama Masjid. People here are cooperating and want peace, Delhi police is also working for the same." Locals at Jama Masjid offered roses to Delhi Police PRO and other senior Police officers at Jama Masjid.
New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 20 attended the inaugural session of '100 years of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in Delhi where he said that his government has not only stabilized the economy, which was heading towards disaster during end of Congress rule, but also made efforts to bring discipline to it. Speaking at the session, PM Modi said, "5-6 years back, our economy was heading towards disaster. Our government has not only stabilized it, but also made efforts to bring discipline to it. New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 20 attended the inaugural session of '100 years of ASSOCHAM' in Delhi where he assured banking sector and corporate sector that earlier weaknesses have been controlled and advised them to take decisions, invest and spend without any hesitation. In the conference, PM Modi said, "For bringing transparency, efficiency and accountability, we are moving towards faceless tax administration." He also said, "I today want to assure those associated with banking sector and corporate sector that we have been to an extent successful in controlling the earlier weaknesses. So, take decisions, invest and spend without any hesitation." Further on FDI, PM Modi said, "FDI inflow has increased in India in last few years and I have two meanings of FDI. One popularly known as 'Foreign Direct Investment' and the other I call is 'First Develop India'."
Hyderabad, Dec 20 (ANI): Speaking to ANI, on violent anti-CAA protests, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that people who perpetrate violence are the real enemy of the protests against the new citizenship law. "Protest is a constitutional right and is a part of Article 19. We condemn violence at any cost, those who perpetrate violence, they are the real enemy of the protest," said Owaisi.
Jaipur (Rajasthan), Dec 20 (ANI): A gold medalist college student from Rajasthan was detained by the police after he wore a black arm band to show solidarity towards students of Jamia Millia Islamia University, who clashed in violent protest with the Delhi Police while demonstrating against CAA, during his convocation day in Jaipur. Anant Mishra sported a black band around his arm while taking the medal from the Governor. Mishra was later released after questioning. He is a student of M.Sc. Geology of 2017 batch. Speaking about the matter, he said that it is not democratically right that and this is why he has tied the black belt around his arm. Delhi Police-Jamia students clashed on Dec 15 over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest.
Bengaluru, Dec 20 (ANI): Speaking to ANI, Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Home Minister informed that the ruckus was created in the state by the presence of people from neighbouring state, however, the situation is under control today. "Yesterday, a lot of people had come from neighbouring state and lot of violence has been created because of their presence. Today situation is peaceful, it is under control. We are in talks with the people from the minority community. Journalists have not been arrested, they had come from Kerala, they have been sent back," said Bommai.

Kolkata, Dec 20 (ANI): Reacting to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's demand for United Nations-monitored referendum on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani said the former's remark is an insult to the Indian Parliament. "Every Indian political parties and citizens know that Indian constitution and parliament are supreme. CM questioning legislation passed by the Parliament is an insult of Indian Parliament. The people who are supporting violence, I appeal the state government to take strict action against them," Irani told reporters in Kolkata.
