Nepal marks 10th Republic Day with fervor

Kathmandu (Nepal), May 29 (ANI): On May 29, 2017, Nepal celebrated its 10th Republic Day with much fervor and joy. A grand procession was organized in the "Tundikhel" which showcased various cultural activities as well as parade by security forces and different organizations. The event was observed by Nepal President Vidhya Devi Bhandari, Vice- President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister of caretaker government Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chief Justice Sushila Karki and House Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar. The head of Republic Day event organizingcommittee and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal wished everyone a happy Republic Day. After the success of People's Movement to overthrow the two-century-old monarchy system, Nepal re-established the democracy in 2006. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly on 28th May 2008 declared Nepal as the Federal Democratic Republic.

Literary event held to boost Indo-Nepal relations

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 28 (ANI): BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and Embassy of India in Nepal organised a cultural event to further enhance the bilateral relations between the countries. Ruchika Theatre group from India staged a drama based on the life of famous Indian poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore when he was young. The drama titled "a quiet desire" set in the 19th century depicts the life of young Tagore through prose, poetry, and music. The story sheds light on his relationship with his brother and his sister-in-law Kadambari. It also talks of Kadambari's suicide within four months of Rabindranath's marriage. The drama also talks about his struggling days before he achieved any greatness. Feisal E Alkazi who has written and directed the Drama believes literature is an essential entity to bring anyone closer. Fresh protest erupts in Nepal on the Madhesi issue

Birgunj, Nepal, May 28 (ANI): Rashtriya Janta Party in Nepal today staged fresh protests, saying they won't back down unless and until the demands of the Madhesi community are met. They even threatened to boycott the upcoming elections.The leaders of the Rashtriya Janta Party demand that the amendment of the constitution should happen as soon as possible or the elections will never happen in the Madhesh region.The second phase of the local elections is scheduled to take place on the 14th of June.

Indian naval ship carrying flood relief materials reaches Colombo

Colombo (Sri Lanka), May 28 (ANI): In the wake of recent floods in Sri Lanka, Indian naval ship INS Shardul carrying flood relief materials and medical supplies on Sunday reached Colombo in Sri Lanka. The Indian government had sent INS Shardul and INS Kirch for rescue and relief operations as the toll in floods and landslides went up to 100 in the country. The relief assistance includes food, water and medicines for the flood hit victims.

Relief Supplies from India reaches flash flood-hit Sri Lanka

Kalutara, Galle, Matara (Sri Lanka), May 27 (ANI): As the catastrophic landslides and floods that have plagued Sri Lanka in the last three days, the Indian Government has provided relief material to the island nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed concerned departments to provide all necessary assistance to the country in its flood relief operations. This came after Colombo had requested New Delhi to provide assistance following major flooding and landslides in various parts of the country. Meanwhile, Indian Navy's medical and rescue teams are on work in the Sri Lankan city of Kalutara, amid major landslide and flooding in the region. At least 91 have been killed and 110 have gone missing so far.

Mixed reaction over Nepal Prime Minister Resignation

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 27 (ANI): Pushpa Kamal Dahal resigned from his post as Prime Minister of Nepal on Wednesday. The resignation took over the headlines of newspapers published from Kathmandu.The main stream and the highly circulated newspapers of Nepal somewhat glorified the 10 months tenure of Prime Minister Dahal, whereas some opined that he could have stepped down after the second phase of polls. Dahal addressed the nation and announced his resignation and termed it as a successful tenure. Though remarkable achievements were achieved during Dahal's tenure he is not able to complete the destined task.With the resignation of Prime Minister, Nepal has already has started the process to elect new premiere. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is expected to be the 40th Prime Minister of Nepal.

National Muslim Alliance demands elections postponed sighting Ramzan

Birganj (Nepal), May 27 (ANI): The National Muslim Struggle Alliance of Nepal has decided to boycott the upcoming second phase of local elections. The second phase of the local elections is scheduled for June 14th. The government has declined the demands of the Madhesi Muslims to defer the date of elections as it coincides with the holy month of Ramadan.

Gilgit's Pakistan Peoples Party leaders call on Pakistan to vacate their land

Kashmiri leaders condemn Pakistani security forces for spreading terror

Rawalpindi, Pakistan, May 26 (ANI): Kashmiri leaders recently held a meeting at Rawalpindi Press Club to pay tribute to their slain nationalist leader Arif Shahid and condemn the Pakistani security forces for his death. Shahid, a pro-independence Kashmiri leader criticized Pakistan's policy of treating Kashmir as its 'colony'. In the meeting organized by the United Kashmir People's National Party or UKPNP, the leaders urged Pakistani authorities to not use their land for terrorist activities. Nepal Ethnic Minorities calls for protest

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 26 (ANI): The Federal Alliance of Nepal announced its fresh plans of protest targeting the second phase of the election scheduled for 14th of June this year. The disgruntled alliance has plans of protest which ranges from Baton protest to the picketing of the election offices in low-lying Southern Plains and call for a strike which aimed to disrupt the filing of nominations. The government has decided to add 22 local levels in the volatile Southern Plains in order to appease the disgruntled parties. Manchester Explosion: We are treating this as terrorist incident, say police

Manchester (United Kingdom), May 23 (ANI): At least 19 people were killed and 50 others injured in an explosion during Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena in United Kingdom on Monday night. Two loud explosions were reportedly heard near the ticket counter of the arena. However, the cause of the reported blast is still not known. The 23-year-old pop singer did not sustain any injury in the incident.
