Ruling Alliance, UDMF engagement usher hopes of agreement on amendment in Nepal constitution

Kathmandu, Nepal, Jan 31 (ANI): The talks between the ruling alliance and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) of Nepal has ushered hopes of agreement on the issue of amendment in the Nepal constitution and holding fresh election within some days.In the meeting, the Madhesh-based parties retained their demand of amendment before holding the local election. The government has intended to go further with amendment and election simultaneously. Though the meeting failed to draw the conclusion, the ruling and the disgruntled parties have agreed to continue their attempts in coming days to reach a confined agreement. The Election Commission has requested the Government to announce the date by January 28.

5 dead after gunmen open fire during evening prayers in mosque

Quebec, Canada, Jan 30 (ANI): At least five people died after a few gunmen opened fire inside a mosque in Canada's Quebec during evening prayers on Sunday. As reported by a witness, three gunmen had attacked about 40 people inside the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Centre. The administration personnel rushed to the spot and carried out relief and rescue operations.

UDMF signals red to government's proposal to hold election before amendment

Kathmandu, Jan 25 (ANI): The United Madhesi Democratic Front, alliance of disgruntled Madhesh based parties has rejected the government proposal to hold local elections prior to amendment. The meeting which continued for about 5 hours in PM's residence, Baluwatar on Tuesday evening failed to get the support of UDMF leaders over its proposal to hold the election before the amendment. The government of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda filed the amendment proposal in the parliament last year and is on continued talks with disgruntled parties. The government who is in intense pressure to hold local elections has the deadline till January 21, 2018to hold three tire elections - local, provincial and parliamentary, constitutionally.

Ambulance service launched at Indo-Nepal border

Gargash, who was speaking in an ANI exclusive interview, said, "The UAE always believes that there is a relationship between extremism and terrorism. What we need to do in our fight against terrorism is to undermine and confront extremist forces in various ways, as how they deal with women and how they present view of Islam. The way they want to impose ultra orthodox conservatism on society. All these things are basically the foundation that leads to terrorism." Hollywood actors, Mayors lead mass protest against Donald Trump

New York, Jan 20 (ANI): On the eve of inauguration ceremony of Donald J. Trump as the 45th president of the United States, thousands of protesters and a group of Hollywood celebrities took to the streets in New York City for a pre-inauguration demonstration against Trump. Amendment of new Constitution becomes mammoth task for Nepal Govt

Kathmandu, Jan 19 (ANI): Amendment of the new constitution is now becoming a mammoth task for Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal led government. Even after 6 months, the government is not able to start the discussion over the amendment proposal tabled in the parliament last year. 65 votes are yet to be decided. Rastriya Prajatantrik Party (Raprapa), Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum- Loktantrik and other 12 small parties are among them. According to political analysts, government in future will face obstacles in the implementation of the new constitution. With the House speaker barred from voting over the bill and with the death of 3 members and 2 still to be nominated with a members' resignation and one elimination, the number of members in CA of Nepal have a total of 595 members. With the government focusing on holding the local elections, the parliament needs election laws to be passed soon. Cultural vivacity of India being exhibited in Kathmandu
