PM Modi, Rwandan President Kagame hold delegation-level talks in Kigali

Kigali (Rwanda), Jul 24 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rwanda on Monday, on the first leg of his three-nation Africa tour. He was received by President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. The Prime Minister is on a five-day, three-nation tour to Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa. PM Modi later did a one-on-one meeting and delegation-level talks with President Kagame. Both the dignitaries held delegation-level talks to strengthen partnership in trade and investment, capacity building, development partnership and people to people ties. This is first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Rwanda.

Indians abroad are 'rashtradoots', says PM Modi

Kigali (Rwanda), Jul 24 (ANI): While addressing the Indian community in Rwanda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Indian diaspora living outside India as 'rashtradoots' or ambassadors for the country. "I am delighted to interact with the Indian community in Rwanda. All over the world, the Indian diaspora is making a mark. They are now our Rashtradoots," said PM Modi. The Prime Minister added, "Today if any Indian sportsperson is winning a gold medal, this has become possible because we have made the selection procedure transparent. Now the right person goes to the right place."

Kigali (Rwanda), Jul 24 (ANI): President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame said that Prime Minister Modi's visit represents a milestone between the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Rwanda and India. He also praised India's support to Rwanda's development agenda. President Kagame was addressing the gathering after signing of Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) between India and Rwanda. India and Rwanda signed eight MoUs, including in the areas of agriculture, defence, culture, dairy cooperation, leather and allied sectors, LOC Agreements and trade.

Gunman dead in Toronto firing, 9 people injured

Toronto (Canada), Jul 23 (ANI): A gunman who opened fire outside a restaurant in Canada's Toronto is dead. According to Toronto Police, nine people received injuries in the attack. "9 victims shot. Conditions of victims not known yet A young girl is one of the 9 victims. 9 victims does not include the shooter who is dead #GO1341286," police tweeted. Police further said, "At Danforth Av Logan Av Toronto Police responded to a call at 10pm Sunday July 22/2018. 9 people shot. Shooter is dead. Many join strike in Nepal for fasting doctor

Kathmandu (Nepal), Jul 23 (ANI): Hundreds of people on Sunday began a mass relay hunger strike to protest the government's crackdown on the supporters of a prominent doctor and activist who has been fasting for nearly a month, demanding reforms in the country's medical sector. Social activist and orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC has gone on hunger strike 15 times over the past six years in an attempt to pressure the government to improve healthcare. The protesters at Kathmandu Durbar Square, who are supporting Dr Govinda, hit out against PM Oli's government. Nepal held three-tier elections last year and adopted the federal system of governance, with K P Sharma Oli appointed as the Prime Minister. The government is growing unpopular among the masses as its decisions and promises are not being addressed. The mass sit-in, which is organised by the activist groups, will be held till the government addresses their demands.

Japan's heat wave claims 44 lives

New Delhi, Jul 23 (ANI): At least 44 people have died across Japan as extreme heat waves continue to grip the East Asia nation. Japan Meteorological Agency has alerted people to take appropriate measures to counter the scorching heat. Keeping oneself hydrated, staying away from direct sunlight, and the use of air conditioners is encouraged, with the agency warning that the "potential for heat illness is higher than usual." With the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics due to start in two years' time, authorities have predicted high temperatures for Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu islands, where the mercury is likely to rise up or even cross the 35 degree Celsius mark, with the Hokkaido island likely to be spared from the sweltering heat.

Trump calls media 'hypocrites' for saying he was too nice to Putin

New Delhi, Jul 21 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump lashed out at mainstream news media on Friday over the coverage of his bilateral summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, calling reporters as hypocrites for questioning his treatment to Putin.In a tweet, Trump said that he was "severely criticised for being too nice to Putin" before he termed the "fake news media" as "hypocrites." The US President wrote on the micro-blogging site, "I got severely criticized by the Fake News Media for being too nice to President Putin. In the Old Days they would call it Diplomacy. If I was loud and vicious, I would have been criticized for being too tough. Remember when they said I was too tough with Chairman Kim? Hypocrites!" The two leaders held two hours of closed-door summit in July in Helsinki.

3D printed guns cleared for download in the US

New Delhi, Jul 21 (ANI): The United States Government on Friday cleared gun rights activists to post plans for 3D printable guns online from August 1. The feud between the two parties started in 2013 when a self-proclaimed 'post right anarchist', Cody Wilson uploaded plans for a 3-D printed handgun he called "The Liberator". The handgun was almost entirely made of ABS plastic. As part of the settlement reached, Wilson and Defense Distributed have been cleared to upload their plans, files, and 3-D drawings and have been exempted from the export restrictions. The government has also agreed to refund Wilson's legal fees to the tune of USD 40,000, along with some registration fees.

Trump invites Putin to Washington for Fall Summit

New Delhi, Jul 20 (ANI): President Donald Trump has asked his National Security Advisor John Bolton to invite his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to Washington D.C. for this fall summit. Taking to her Twitter handle, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the discussions to invite Putin to the US are already underway. "In Helsinki, @POTUS agreed to ongoing working level dialogue between the two security council staffs. Nepal gears up to host 4th BIMSTEC summit

Kathmandu (Nepal), July 17 (ANI): Nepal's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has confirmed that the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit will begin from August 30. The fourth summit of the BIMSTEC is being held in Nepal and Gyawali apprised of the preparations. "The meeting has been fixed for August end. The Summit will be held from August 30 to 31. Prior to that there will be Foreign Ministerial meeting and also a high level official meeting" Foreign Minister Gyawali said. BIMSTEC is the sub-regional grouping comprising seven countries of South Asia and South East Asia. With the formation of the new government headed by Leftist parties in the Himalayan nation, the incumbent government is eyeing BIMSTEC summit as an opportunity to highlight Nepal through the regional forum.

Pak elections: Mumbai blast mastermind Hafiz Saeed launches intense campaign
