: Testing their emergency preparedness during unexpected situations, more than 300 personnel of Tamil Nadu police and Coast Guard (Eastern Region) today began a 48 hour "Operation Amla" across 13 coastal districts of the state.

The operation is being conducted across the Eastern coast beginning from Chennai to Kanyakumari with the deployment of a large number of police officers.

Police officials posing as 'terrorists' would try to enter South India through boats near Rameswaram to check the preparedness of fellow officers, sources said.

More than 300 officers equipped with latest technology and devices are undertaking the drill, which is expected to end tomorrow.

While highway patrolling has been intensified on the East Coast Road at Chennai under this operation, security has been tightened at Chennai airport with additional deployment of 150 officers as part of the operation.

Security has been beefed up in vital places where people throng in large numbers, the sources said.
