Apurba Sarma awarded Assam Valley Literary Award

Eminent Assamese litterateur Apurba Sarma has been awarded the prestigious Assam Valley Literary Award for the year 2015.
A novelist and short story writer, Sarma has been honoured with the lifetime achievement award, instituted by the Willamson Magor Education Trust, which would be presented to him in March, a release issued by the Trust said today.
Sarma had received the Sahitya Akademi award in 2000 for his collection of short stories - Baghe Tapur Rati and the Swarna Kamal-National Award for the Best Book in Cinema for his book 'Asomiya Chalachitrar Sa-pohar' in 2002.

Sarma had retired as the principal of Nowgong Girls' College in 2002 and had subsequently served as an Editor of a local Assamese daily 'Ajir Asom' till 2012.
The award was a part of Williamson Magor Education Trust's endeavour to preserve and promote the rich literary heritage of Assam.
