Harassed over dowry, 22-yr-old woman commits suicide

A 22-year-old married woman committed suicide by jumping into a canal here allegedly after being harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry.

The woman's father Harinath, a Bihar resident, filed a complaint alleging that his daughter, Sanju, took the extreme step after being mentally and physically tortured by her in-laws for not bringing enough dowry, police said today.

Sanju had recently got married to Ravi, a resident of Jeevan Nagar area here.

A case has been registered against Ravi and his parents -- Ramnarayan Prasad and Phoolvaso Devi -- under relevant sections of the IPC.
