Passengers of a private bus had a close shave when it caught fire while on its way to Bangalore near a police station in Ramapuram mandal headquarters area, police said today.
While the bus, carrying passengers from Proddatur town in Kadapa district, was going to Bangalore, it rammed into a scooter parked by roadside on national highway 18 at around 11.30 PM yesterday.
As the bus dragged the scooter, there was a spark which resulted in a fire.
The passengers observed the flames and alerted the driver, who stopped the bus.
All the passengers alighted immediately to safety.
Local police supervised the rescue operation and managed to send the passengers to their destinations through various buses.
Police have registered a case and are further investigating.
