Youth jumps into river, dies

The incident took place in Akbarpur area of Ambedkar Nagar district, when some policemen charged Vinod Gaur (22) with gambling.

Locals claimed Gaur was just passing by that area and he had come to buy some medicines from the market.

They said five policemen, two of them in uniform, chased Gaur who got so scared that he ran towards the river Tamsa flowing nearby and jumped into it.

The policemen saw him drowning but did not save him, they alleged, adding his body was later taken out by his family members.

Gaur's uncle Ram Sumer has filed a complaint in Kotwali Akbarpur against unknown policemen.

 

"After we received this information, we conducted an identification of policemen by the locals. But none was being identified," Faizabad DIG Bhanu Bhaskar said.

"This is a serious allegation against police and we are conducting an enquiry on local level with full impartiality," Bhaskar said.
