An advocate by profession and the official spokesperson of the Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Delhi unit, Nupur Sharma contested the 2015 Delhi Assembly election from the high-profile New Delhi constituency against the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP’s) chief ministerial candidate Arvind Kejriwal. Sharma lost by more than 31,000 votes.
Born on April 23, 1985, Nupur Sharma graduated in economics from Hindu College of the Delhi University (DU). Later, she also did her LLB from DU and went on to get a masters degree in law from London School of Economics.
Sharma was active in student politics during her college days. She won the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) election on an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) ticket and became its president in 2008. During her term as the DUSU president, she participated in various campus welfare causes like installation of CCTV cameras for security, water purifiers and solar lamps within the university.
A member of the state executive committee of the Delhi BJP unit, Nupur has been a prominent face of the party’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Throughout her political career, she has held several positions within the party administration circuit of the BJP. She participates in various media debates to represent her party’s views.
