Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Monday reported 6 per cent increase in total sales at 63,851 units in July 2022. The company had sold 60,249 units in the same month last year. Domestic sales were at 50,500 units last month as against 48,042 units in July 2021, a growth of 5.1 per cent, HMIL said in a statement. Exports grew 9.4 per cent at 13,351 units as compared to 12,207 units in the year-ago month, it added. "With the improvement in the semiconductor situation, the passenger vehicle segment is showing positive trends riding on the green shoots of pent-up demand and customer desire towards personal mobility," HMIL Director (Sales, Marketing & Service), Tarun Garg said. The company's newly launched SUV Tucson has also received strong customer response, he said adding, "We remain optimistic towards the future prospects of the Indian auto industry.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Monday reported a 33 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicles sales in July this year at 28,053 units, driven by its utility vehicles. The company had sold 21,046 units in the same month last year, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) said in a regulatory filing. Domestic utility vehicle sales during the month were at 27,854 units, as against 20,797 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 34 per cent, it added. On the other hand, sales of cars and vans were down 20 per cent at 199 units, as compared to 249 units a year ago, M&M said. M&M President, Automotive Division, Veejay Nakra said the company witnessed robust demand for its brands, including XUV700, Thar, Bolero and XUV300. "The supply chain situation continues to remain dynamic, and we are monitoring the situation closely," he added. Auto dealers' body FADA said it expects automakers to launch higher number of models this festive season compared to the last two years when Covid-19 pandemic overshadowed the festive cheer. Federation of Automobile Dealers' Association (FADA) president Vinkesh Gulati had termed 2021 festive season as the "worst" in a decade in terms of business of its retail partners. In an interaction with PTI, Gulati said this time the demand is "too good", except for the non-electric two-wheeler segment which remains the "biggest stress" on the industry owing to a host of factors. "If I compare with the last two years, you will find at least double the model launch during the festive season. Moreover, we are seeing a lot of electric vehicles being launched also.
