3Com India Private Limited, the 100 per cent subsidiary of Massachusetts-based 3Com Corporation, today inaugurated its India development centre (IDC) in Hyderabad.

Addressing a press conference, Mohan Sayani, director of the India research and development centre, 3Com India Private Limited, said, "The IDC has been set up through a strategic partnership with city-based Mars Telecom Systems Private Limited."

According to Sayani, the IDC would complement the company's R&D facilities in the US, the UK and Taiwan. "It will be a centre of excellence in software development for 3Com's line of VoIP products and will support future growth in wireless, switching and network management," he said.

The company, by expanding its R&D facilities, also wants to ensure that its clients have access to high-quality products and resources.

3Com would initially have a team of 35 engineers in Hyderabad working on VoIP technology along with the R&D team based in Chicago and Marlboro. "The company expects the strength to be increased to around 80 in the next 12-15 months," he said.

3Com is a leading provider of innovative, practical and high-value voice and data networking products, services and solutions. For the financial year ended May 28, 2004 the annual revenue of the company was $699 million and its cash and short-term investments totalled $1.4 billion.
