Afghan team visits Eastern Power

BS Reporter Chennai/ Visakhapatnam

A seven-member team from Afghanistan visited Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP to study the working of the power utility. The Afghan government plans to implement the operational activities of the discom at its newly-formed national electricity utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS). Visakhapatnam-based Phonix IT Solutions Limited will be its IT partner, a release said.

The team comprised Afghanistan Power Department’s Information Communication Technology director Sayed Yousafi and Kabul Electricity Supply Improvement programme acting CEO Richard Tainton.

The project will commercialise power distribution services in Kabul and will build the capacity of DABS to operate on a full cost recovery basis. The US, World Bank and other international donors have worked closely with Afghanistan’s government to establish DABS as a commercialised, public entity that will be able to help further increase the amounts of electricity available for Afghan houses and businesses.
