Base Batteries plant soon at Hosur

Bangalore-based battery manufacturing firm Base Batteries is in the process of setting up a manufacturing facility at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, with an investment of Rs 432 crore. The new facility, in 180 acre land would have a capacity of 325,000 batteries per month.

The company expects the facility to produce stock worth Rs 2,000 crore revenue, once it is fully operational in next three years, said a senior official from the company.

After announcing its tie up with Formula One car racing team Hispania Racing Team (HRT) to work as an official battery supplier for the team at the Formula One Indian Grand Prix, I season, 2011, Aditya Arora, chief operating officer, Base Batteries, said.

 

The new facility would manufacture batteries for telecom, railway and submarines. The first phase of the project is targeted to complete in 18 months. Its existing facility at Solan in Himachal Pradesh, is catering to automotive, solar, generator, UPS, two wheeler and inverter battery segments.

It has tied up with seven banks including Axis Bank, IDBI and Indian Overseas Bank to invest around Rs 270 crore of the Rs 432 crore investment plan, while the rest would be from internal accruals, he added.

Once the new facility reach full capacity, it could produce products worth Rs 2,000 crore revenue per annum. "With completion of the new facility, we expect our revenue to go up to Rs 2,600 crore per annum by 2014-15," said Arora. It would recruit 2,000 employees in Hosur plant in the first phase and would increase it to 3,500 by completion of the project.
