Britannia's Tiger in mid-day meal

Britannia Industries, Naandi Foundation and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), have jointly initiated a project to provide iron fortified biscuits to children, in addition to the regular mid-day meal they receive at school.
Britannia has come forward to partner the programme by specially developing and manufacturing Britannia Tiger iron fortified biscuits to be given to 1.2 lakh children in Hyderabad, as a supplement to the Andhra Pradesh government's mid-day meal programme. The programme was inaugurated by chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
In the first phase, two Britannia Tiger Iron (5 mg) fortified biscuits will be provided to each child twice a week. Britannia and Naandi are also planning to conduct several support activities to sensitise mothers and teachers about the criticality and importance of iron in children's diet.
In addition to this, they will present various fun competitions and games etc to children with the objective of improving their mental and physical development. One such game is printed on the biscuit itself.
This is the first initiative of a larger national programme, which is proposed to be taken across the country by Britannia in partnership with like-minded organisations.
"We provide egg and banana in the mid-day meal, but the iron fortified biscuits will strengthen the nutrition values of the meal significantly," Manoj Kumar, CEO of Naandi Foundation, said.
