Cutty Sark targets 15% growth

Our Bureau Chennai/ Bangalore
Cutty Sark International, the $100 million UK-based firm and promoters of scotch whisky brands such as Glenrothes, is putting the pedal to the metal in the Indian market, 18-months after making the debut.

The company is expanding the presence of its Glenrothes brand to more cities in India after launching it in a couple of cities in November last year.

According to Chris Burn, regional sales director, Cutty Sark International, sales last year grew around 12 per cent and with the expansion the company was looking at a 15 per cent growth.

"We are targetting a niche client base and we are not in the mass market. The Glenrothes is a single Speyside malt scotch whisky imported from Scotland and is priced around Rs 7,000 for a single bottle," he noted.

The company had initially launched the product in New Delhi and Mumbai and is presently rolling out in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Besides the recently launched Glenrothes, the company has been selling its blended scotch whisky Cutty Sark in India and further variants under the brand are expected shortly. The company is also looking at bringing in its wine collection from a group company in the near future.
